Very decent specs but price in website link shows 259.99.... am i missing something?

Link shows £249.99 - Ebay outlet.

This is really an excellent bargain! not sure why folks are voting cold..

Despite the Athlon CPU I think this is a reasonable deal. For example, with the Radeon 4250 you'll be able to play Portal 2 without any problems. However, you wont be able to play the most modern 3D action games.

Add a cheap 3 year warranty extension for £30 (inc accidental damage) and its not a bad package.

Any way to cheaply upgrade these to Win 7 Professional?
#6
The Athlon was out of date a few years ago
Cold from me.
#7
if people are going to vote cold would you mind pointing me in the direction of a better spec computer with a similar price. My sister is looking to get a couple of cheapish lappys for her kids.
#8
We got one of these - fine laptop. no problems with it and Windows 7 Premium too..!
#9
You wont get any better processor in a laptop at this price range. Add in the dedicated graphics and your onto a winner. Hot from me

It's not just about spec. Acer don't seem to do very well on here. Better build qualtity maybe:

For anyone on a restricted budget in the market for a full sized, general family use laptop, at £250 it's a decent deal. An HDMI connection is a must have IMHO for playing HD quality movies/ streaming bbc iplayer etc through to your big screen tele. This has HDMI out.

For greater performance and longevity, if you can afford to stretch to one of the core i3 cpu deals knocking around at the moment (£300 ish) then i'd advise doing so. Nevertheless, at £250, have some heat.

Acer means [email protected] in Korean as far as I am concerned, appalling build quality and reliability.

If you can find one mainstream brand that you are able to sensibly brand wholly as 'appalling' then I will eat my hat.
I'm using my Acer Timeline 4810T and it's build quality it top notch, especially for it's price range, while at the same time I've used an Acer that felt like it was about to explode in my lap. You cannot name a brand as a whole like that, especially one of this size.

I'm not too happy with my acer (2920), mainly due to poor build quaility and a number of persistant software & hardware issues- so I would personally stay away from acer based on my bad experience.

That said, at this spec & price it's all relative, i would say that this is a decent deal.

Korea, Taiwan, they are all the same place (_;)

Had 3 Acers so far and not one has failed or any build quality issues, the Wifes more expensive Samsung died though just after a year. I'd say this is a good deal for the price.
#17
tempted. my dell xps m1530 died at the weekend and this will be similar in most aspect to that

seems pretty well reviewed at 8.3 out of 10 on reevoo http://www.reevoo.com/p/acer-aspire-5552-p323g25mnkk

I believe Korea and Taiwan are different countries, so I don't understand your comment.

Korea has for example Samsung, which I have found makes invariably good products, I have an NC10, a 17" laptop and a Samsung LED TV, very pleased with all 3.

Acer, I have had 2 laptops in the past, poor design, poor build quality, poor value even at a cheap price.

reading this thread im reminded of a film quote "russian components, american componets. All made in Tiawan!"

Everything is made to a budget. Its just that some budgets are slightly higher than others.

which is better spec this or the acer aspire 5742z? Not so much worried about the price at this point just interested which would be the best laptop?

Not much in it really. The Pentium is a bit faster. And the Athlon can play PC games (although notrecent 3D ones.) Which ever way you go I'd still get the £30 3 year warranty extension.

The item code quoted is SV.WNBAF.E03 which looks good (there are many differnet types of Acer warranties).

Warmish but i would avoid Acer like the plague....About a 90% failure rate at my work.
