Yeah, I don't understand it either - buy rechargable high capacity AAs, if they run out when you're out and about, buy AAs off the shelf instead of being stuffed because you don't have a spare camera-specific one (or if you do, you've probably paid more for it than you would for 4 sets of AA rechargables).
I did a lot of reading up before buying that one last week and I'm delighted with the Canon.
The good: The Fujifilm FinePix S2950 has a wide-angle 18x zoom lens, takes AA-size batteries for power, and has a 3-inch LCD, an electronic viewfinder, and manual and semimanual shooting modes.
The bad: The S2950's performance and photo quality indoors and in low-light conditions are merely passable for its price.
The bottom line: A low-cost way to get an 18x wide-angle lens, the Fujifilm FinePix S2950 delivers merely OK photos and shooting performance.

Amazon reviews, and remember everyone paid a lot more than £99.99.

I'm debating between this an the refurb F550EXR. I really would like the geotagging features and have heard that most of the internals (except the lens obviously) are the same as the HS20EXR
Anyone can compare this an the F550EXR?

You say "Even at the same price" isn't that the basis of a fair comparison. I wish that people making comparisons would remember this and not compare items that are a lot more expensive.

They may have also done some Fuji bridge cameras, I forget now.
As for the Canon, only slightly less MP, quite a bit less zoom (but still good at 12x); same size screen, No viewfinder (boo). Again the use of AA batteries, but at least its only 308g (the Fuji is 437g), on the downside, its as ugly as sin, who designed that beast!
Macro stuff is very good. Taking action photo's is very hit and miss as the delay is very noticeable.
Been running on Duracell bats and rechargables. Proper bats last much longer and last ages. rechareables go flat pretty quick in comparrison and i'm sure the camera runs a bit slower 9but that could be a mistake).
Yes worth paying extra-

The zoom is impressive and it's comfortable to hold but in the end I opted for a camera that has a rechargeable battery and takes better low light shots.
"...with 14mp you can't go wrong..." er, yes you can! Bad feature in a small sensor - you obviously don't understand.
Oddly enough it's probably not such a bad feature as it is in compact cameras where they're bulky and heavy (as well as having a short charge life). Cheaper for the manufacturer of course (no charger or battery). Still Li-ion evey time for me (but you do need a cheap aftermarket spare).
It comes with a set of batteries which are still going strong.
I'd probably find myself missing the full manual controls if I got this...
It has an excellent panoramic mode, and plenty of settings that encourage you to look a bit deeper into SLR cameras.
The batteries mine came with are still going strong, as another poster has said, and in an emergency, 4 AA's are easily to find than a device specific rechargable battery (which probably wouldn't be fully charged anyway).
As people have said, in low light indoors, the image is a bit grainy, but tbh find me a camera that isn't at this price.
I paid about £165 I think, on launch and have been perfectly happy with it - it has certainly taken a few knocks from my small children and has come on holiday with us 4 times and is still in perfect condition.
Do you have any issues with the shutter lag? especially on holidays and with kids I find the moment passes by if you have shutter lag...
this is an interesting comment because i too have the s5500 and i was actually thinking of the s3200 as an upgrade.
We bought my mum the 3200 as a gift and it is a great camera. The PQ was excellent
