Microsoft do a 3yr warranty on top.

Interestingly in the USA 3rd party insurance company SquareTrade (offering after sales warranties) have just released data showing that the latest Xbox (the Jasper) has a failure rate of less than 1%.

(by way of comparison the out-going 'fat' PS3 has a failure rate of 10% and the Wii rate is 2.7%)

So what motherboard would this be?

Its my sons bday in 2 weeks and he wants either an xbox or a ps3. Cant really afford the new ps3 slim so this seems like a good buy.
Unfortunately dont know much about the xbox.
Would he get everything he needs with this to be able to play online etc or what else would i need to buy.
Is this a good model and the best deal for it around at the mo?
Cheers

reckon the link below is the best xbox deal at the mo (includes a 2nd wireless controller and 4 games), but search for "elite" on HUKD and there are various packages.

If your lad wants to play online you will need to pay £30+ a year with an xbox (free with PS3) and possibly buy a wireless router for the xbox (around £30 - 60) which is also free and built in with the PS3, so remember to compare apples with apples - the PS3 might be your best bet long term

The PS3 is £229 @ Tesco

Hope this helps??

Looking at what you can afford this xbox 60gb here is the best deal for you,
Though the Xbox Elite also comes with everything you would need + bigger hard drive and 2- 4 games and extra controller it's £199.
As for The PS3 that is £229 and has no games etc so "further outlay is also required ".....

With this 60gb 360 You should get everything you need in the box to go online including a Lan cable to connect to your router and a months xbox live Gold, if after a month you want to carry on useing live to play other gamers you can buy "13 months" membership for around £26, you also get a headset for live chat etc included in the box..(You also get backward compatability with Xbox 1 games which means most Xbox 1 games can also be played on this system)..

This 60gb is also your best bet at this price as you can upgrade to any other options at a later date if you wanted to..

Ok, guys. Thank you for your comments and info, Repped :)
I didnt wanna start an argument lol.
Thats good to know that everythig is in the boxto get him started.
I guess all i would really need to buy is another controller (so he can play it with his mates/brother)?
Any ideas on price on one of these? Also, he said he wanted fifao 2010 but i dont think it's released yet. Would i be looking at around the 40 quid mark for that?
Cheers

If this is important then I hope chelskii hasnt misinformed you, if you wanted to play online you'll need to buy a wireless adaptor unless the xbox360 is near a phone line. If the phone line will be close to your 360 then you do have everything needed to play online , apart from the yearly fee, as chelskii said. I thought I'd clear this up incase you bought one and were unable to get online.

ASH2008 , why are they going to be next to a Phoneline !!!! LOL are you serious ? you connect to the router... If you want to go wired even further away at a later date then a few pounds will get you where you where you want to go( I am sure the shop assistants in Currys will be happy to give advice to prospective buyers about this and confirm that you do NOT have to buy a wireless adaptor) so whereever did you get the idea that you will HAVE to buy a wireless adaptor ? ...

And of course a wired connection gives you the best connection possible especially when it comes to gaming.....

Next you will be asked what will you do if your wireless connection is poor and won't connect or keeps losing connection where you want to have it........(do you pay extra for wall sockets, or an Extender etc etc)
Even wall plug sockets have to connect to the router via lan (Er phoneline :whistling: ) at one end.....

By the time you've bought all the rest of the accessories you need, you'd have wished you got the PS3 instead.

Depends, I'm assuming you already have the internet and a router somewhere in your house.

If you can run a cable from your router to your xbox then yes it will work fine, however if it is far away you may need a longer cable. The Xbox does not come with wireless support out of the box if you are expecting it.

The wireless adaptor is quite expensive for some reason but there are a number of alternatives available such as wireless access points and powerline networking.

This is £149.98 everywhere within dsgi, my store (currys digital high wycombe) has loads of them still. However, they have been had a recall issued for them so will only be around for about another week!

DSGi = Dixons Stores Group International PLC.

They own PC World and Currys (and Pixmania, and Dixons, and The Link, amongst others...)
