These will not work in your machine you need to get ddr2 pc-4300 modules which run at 533mhz (not 266mhz as you have stated). Go to crucial.com and use their memory checker, makes it easy! At least then you can get a rough price and will know when you see a bargain! :)

PC2-5300 is backwardly compatible with PC2-4300; it will run at the slower speed in your machine which is fine. As a rule faster memory will run at any lower speed provided it is of the correct type for your board.

I recommend buying the fastest memory within a price range even if you don’t need it as it gives you some leeway to reuse it in the future and should have a higher resale value. You can often buy PC2-4300 cheaply on eBay though which is more attractive.
If you shop around you may find PC2-6400 for a little bit more than this but you have to take into account postage, Quidco etc.

True.

It's a great price and Patriot are a great brand, they're huge in the states but less common over here.

patriot are rubbish had to return 4gb that was faulty and aria took 3 months to refund my money even though they agreed it was faulty this is the worst combination ever aria and patriot why do you think this memory is so cheap? because its rubbish. I know some of you will say its great memory but thats because you have some working stuff and aria what can i say twice ive had faulty stuff and twice ive had problems getting my money back they were saying sorry in pc mart before xmas because of there awful customer service i would avoid this like the plague scan have been doing the 667mhz XMS2 corsair for £24 delivered if you have hexus free shipping. Its been on today only and this is way better memory from one of the best companys and sold by scan aswell so no problems with faults have just checked they dont have any 2gb kits but have 1gb sticks .so get 2 i know the page says £13.97but they are on today only till wednesday for £12.34 not as shown so £24.68 for 2gb

Agharta has already replied to you, and PoisonJam backed him up.

In short - this will work on your PC. But, not at the quoted speed. it will run at 266mhz, which is what your motherboard supports. So, should you upgrade to a faster motherboard, you can put this RAM in the new setup and get the max out of it.

i am really intrested in buying this and thanx to the forum members who have advised this will be fine with my macnhine i need it to speed up my vista machine currently im running it on 512mb so i will install this memory into the 2 other empty slots to make to 2gb plus 512 mb i already have so should this make my system fast?

and is the patriot brand any good? as there is one negative comment on this thread.

please help thanx.

is it me or has no one noticed that the guy says his board takes pc3200 which is ddr1 not ddr2 and pc4300 which is ddr2 and will not fit as ddr1 uses 184pins and ddr2 uses 240pins stay away mate it will not work.
Patriot is rubbish with very poor compatibility a lot of motherboards wont work with it like my new asus board and asus are the best motherboard manufacturer there is.Before buying this ram id check to see if your motherboard will work with it try there (hardware compatibility list) thats why the corsair is a much better bet all motherboads work with corsair, crucial, kingston because they are the mainstream with patriot its ment for the overclocking market but its not very good.

The Geil 800mhz for £29 that was on here the other day at overclockers is way better that can overclock to 950+mhz with the right timmings and voltages and 12 months ago was nearly £200

if your motherboard is rated at a lower bus speed i would avoid this ram its bad enough with boards that are the right speed and you should not match these sticks with your exsisting 2x256mb as this will result in BSOD you dont mix & match disimilar ram its the first thing they teach when learning to build and maintain pc's and now a days most boards use dual channel so if you have 1 or 3 slots populated you lose performance so use 2 or 4

The only thing i can say for patriot is there customer service is very good if you email them they reply quickly

I've read cool80's post a few times and he only mentions PC2 3200

It's been ages since I've overclocked so I can't comment on how these will perform, but I share the same opinion as the others in that if this memry is faster than than supported by the board it will still work at the max speed supported by the board or the slowest memory speed of other memry you have running.

just to clarify after doing a check with cpuz and corsiar memory check my motherboard takes pc2 4300 max bandwith 266 mhz whatever that means!!!

so if this memory is no good please can anyone suggest which type i should get? please make it cheap and how much should i get as i have heard 32 bit systems do not supprt more then 4gig?

i need it for my vista system as its crawling at the moment.

polly I don't want to start a flame war but some of what you saying is misleading.

1. You can get DDR2 3200, very old Dell P4 machines used to use it, I upgraded a customer's machine yesterday that used DDR2 3200 . DDR1 3200 is certainly more common but you can get DDR2 3200.

2. Patriot is a very good and well respected brand, I've used their stuff lots of times & only had one problem. This was rma'd and returned in a week from the shop I got from, (not Aria I would add). I've had more problems with Crucial and Corsair memory than I have with Patriot, although much of this seems to be down to Micron D9 chip's high failure rate than anything to do with a particular manufacturer.

3. Patriot's compatability is very good and Asus are arguably not the best motherboard maker there is. If they were you wouldn't have the memory incapability problem that you have.

4. Geil memory is carp and so are overclockers.co.uk ......end of story

However I would agree on staying away from Aria I've also heard some real shockers about their customer support and rma process.

That's the right stuff for your laptop. If you’re lucky it will come with 1 stick of 1GB rather than 2 of 512MB which makes it easier to upgrade.

Thank's for reply, this is for 2x1gb isn't it? already got 2x512 installed

Should do as it matches this memory - http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=29532&ft=M&st=1:)

From that site: Notes : MODULES MUST BE ORDERED AND INSTALLED IN PAIRS for Dual Channel mode. If 4GB is installed, the recognised memory may be reduced to 3.5GB or less (depending on system configuration and memory allocation).

Hi all,

Ive got a Dell Vostro 200 arriving in the next few days and I was wondering if you could tell me if you could recommend a particular memory manufacturer. Ive used the crucial RAM memory tool so specific component recommendations are appreciated but not neccessary :-) ""Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-6400 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.""

Many thanks,

Jonathan
