Successful, but Gibson did the usual Hollywood thing and didn't let fact or truth interfere with the story

Avoid if you can't stomach the idea that England's ruling class have always been into a bit of tyranny
#6
The most historically inaccurate movie ever made. It's even worse than U-571 or The Patriot!

In the year of our Lord, 1314, patriots of Scotland, starving and outnumbered, charged the fields of Bannockburn. They fought like warrior poets, they fought like Scotsmen and won their freedom.

I agree that the film is not very accurate but the above is fact. We were outnumbered 3-1 and still kicked ass. We could easily do the same over again so don't mess lol. The odds were stacked against us but we were victorious. I remember being at the BCM nightclub in Magalluf and they had this on the night of the foam party, on the big screens. There were 20,000 clubbers dancing, 3,000 Scots and 17,000 English. We were intoxicated and outnumbered but we drank like warriors, we drank like Scotsmen and won the girls.

The battle at Stamford Bridge against the Danes/Vikings (in Yorkshire, not Chelsea) fought by King Harold and his men before the Battle of Hastings, including the remarkable march there and back, is a true reflection of Anglo-Saxon warrior heritage.

After that we were subjected to far worse treatment at the hands of the Normans (the great harrowing of the north) than the Scotch were ever subjected to.

Subsequent cruelties have far more to do with Norman behaviour and tendencies than Anglo-Saxon. The Norman aristocracy built the class system and enforced it ruthlessly on the English and anyone else who crossed them.

This country should fund the making of an epic film to correctly portray how King Harold (played by Ray Winstone, who else?) was the greatest hero that this country ever produced, and how Norman cruelty since the Battle of Hastings has been incorrectly attributed to the English.

True. There's no bigger racist, anti-semitic xenophobe than Mel Gibson.

Really? No-one?

Hot price for a great movie. Historically inaccurate? You betcha.

But it's an entertaining film. Gibson is excellent in this. So he's an alcoholic nutter - big deal.

Polanski is something of a paedophile and Connery is a misogynist. Doesn't stop Chinatown and Dr . No from being great films.

Face it, the English got owned on Bannockburn Day. Independence all the way. Come on the SNP!!
#21
Scottish independence? Lol. You can buy your failed banks back, most of the gas and oil has gone and the Scots have a huge social security bill for the Rab C Nesbit's. Just how Salmond thinks he's going to pay for all this with an independent Scotland is quite amusing!
#22
Just keep on believing this unionist propaganda suits us Scots fine and we will get our independence soon. Since 1707 Scottish Banks have gradually come to operate under English company law and financial legislation and then you add Gordo Brown to mix with his light touch financial regulations.
Read this is http://www.newsnetscotland.com/economy/2164-there-was-no-scottish-banking-collapse.html

There 100 years+ of gas/oil left.

Labour/Con's/Libdem's don't give a stuff about Scotland, The SNP does.

The majority of scots know this, despite snp trouncing labour in scotland the polls have shown a steadt decline in favour of full independance. something that must have been brought home during the financial crisis. lets not forget that scots get 21% more in budget terms spent on them than the south of the border. allowing them free tuition fees, prescriptions and other socialist mantras

"Yet if he should give up what he has begun, and agree to make us or our kingdom subject to the King of England or the English, we should exert ourselves at once to drive him out as our enemy and a subverter of his own rights and ours, and make some other man who was well able to defend us our King; for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself. "
#33
This shouldn't be a Scotland England thing but a country's right to self govern. I'm sure there isn't an Englishman alive who doesn't recognise Scotland as a country, albeit part of the UK.

I guessed they are Scotch from their accents and the "any chance of 10p for a cup of tea" gambit.

I give them 20p and tell them to get me one.

What about England's right to self govern without the Scotch ,Welsh and Northern Irish voting on our laws?

The Scotch will get independence sooner if they start pushing for English independence instead.
#38
The Scotch never owned anything and never will without the permission of the English.

And stop press..... just watching a programme on BBC2 re Irish history and an Irish expert says there is now proof that the Irish have no more right to claim Celtic ancestry than the Anglo-Saxons on the British mainland! Apparently they're related more to the English than to anyone else!

ROFLMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't mind the historical inaccuracies - I just found the whole thing a bit chessy and cliche-ed. And it looks a bit dated now.
