Auto Aid are a breakdown service that works on a claim basis - you pay for the repair, etc and claim it back from them (takes about 10 days, and all the reports on the Moneysaver website state that they have paid up ok).
As above it covers the policy holder and spouse (I hate that word), in any car (and some other type of vehicles as well). It also includes home start; having to continue travel by rail, etc; overnight stay in a hotel if necessary. Basically everything that the main RAC, AA services will do, but for only £36!!!
All of the details are on the website.

Sounds good BUT if you can't cover the costs at the roadside (ie £75+ for a motorway tow) then you're shafted? I assume thats how it works.
#2
Not shafted at all, they will invoice you on request.
#3
Only good if you have the means to pay for the service up front, as Shengis has stated.

Auto Aid will refund you what you paid no problem

recommended by Martin Lewis: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/roadside-recovery#reclaim

and plenty of user reviews here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=4396563#post4396563

So who comes to fix my car? Some one from Auto Aid? Or do you call auto aid who get some 3rd party to come around. Then i pay them, (Do they accept credit cards), then reclaim? What are their response times like?

Auto aid are just a insurance company they will get a 3rd party to come out and fix your car

response times are about 40mins depending where in the country you break down.

Some people just call a break down service them selves get the car fixed and just send the invoices to Auto Aid, so in a affect you don't involve Auto Aid when you break down, you just send them the invoices after the cart has been fixed/recovered so they will refund you what they pay.

Seem to have excellent feedback :)

Alternatively, Greenflag's basic cover costs £9.99 after Quidco - covers the car irrespective of the driver.

Its down to the individual recovery firm if they will invoice, some want payment upfront.

Yeah, but effectively you get two policies with autoaid (one for you for whichever car you're driving, and one for your spouse for whichever car they are driving).

Plus, green flags basic doesnt include home start, or onward travel, or overnight accomodation, etc. Not sure if it includes recovery of your car to any UK destination though which is worth its weight in gold if you do significant distances.

That's the Service I went for edi, but cancelled after I got it free through Prudential Car Insurance when I renewed - with their massive £130 Cashback through Quidco. If car insurance renewal is coming up at the same time then it would be worth a look as I got Breakdown (albeit basic cover) and comprehensive insurance for a year for £33!!!

Its cheap yes, I have had a policy for 3 years and claimed a few times. However be wary when you get stuck somewhere distant from your home and have to be recovered as you might go through a few companies/transporters and take 48hrs!

Also there isn't one company involved here in terms of the recovery, if the first one can't do the job or is incompetent it starts getting messy. Whereas with the AA or the RAC its one company who is responsible.

Can't be beaten for full recovery and for spouse though.
#11
I've got it. To be honest, what's a small bit of inconvenience when you are paying only £36.00 per year including your Spouse. You must be mad to use the likes of RAC or AA as both are well overpriced....
#12
Depends, if you have no money to pay upfront you are shafted, you can get RAC cover cheap using Clubcard deals
#13
Had this policy 4 or 5 years - and have had to claim twice - excellent service.

First time was a tow back to home - got billed by the recovery truck and sent off to Autoaid and cheque received a couple of weeks later.
Second was a home start call - recovery truck came out, got car started and guy said that they would bill Autoaid.

Just renewed in May/June of this year for £32 and then a week or so later got the free Green Flag through Prudential

If you dont have the funds to pay upfront then it might not be the appropriate option for you but if you can (& most people do have a credit card) then its a great deal.

Been with them a few years & never heard anything but positive reports about them.

Remember even if you are with one of the big boys like the RAC it might still be a local contracted garage who come to rescue you not a man in a RAC Uniform.

Me and the wife just got free breakdown cover for a year when we insured with Prudential....they had quidco so all in all very cheap...infact they rang and said for £11ish a year I could get breakdown cover on any car Im a passenger in also...so I did it. Lot of cars in the family you see ;-)

So if you break down can you just ring autoaid and they send someone appropriate?

Or do you have to find a repairer/tow yourself?

Yes, you can call their 24 hour helpline and they will find someone appropriate to call out.

I'm in my 2nd year with them, it's a great service as I have two cars and a motorbike, so the single policy covers them all. I've used them three times (don't ask -- really simple things like a puncture mean you're stranded with a bike) and every time called the help line. No problem at all, the wait depends on how far from civilisation you are among other factors.

Out of those three times I've only had to pay myself once, the other two were billed direct to Auto Aid so I didn't have to do anything. The time I paid I just used my credit card and sent Auto Aid the receipt from the recovery firm, got a cheque from them before my credit card bill arrived.

Highly recommended, I'll be renewing with them again next year. I doubt any of the cheap RAC/AA deals will cover you to drive any vehicle with full recovery to/from anywhere in the UK. No good to me if I need a seperate policy for each vehicle.

Have been with Autoaid 2 years and for the money it can't be beaten. If you can to afford run a car you can pay a garage bill then claim back surely?

Repairs are an unexpected expense that nobody ever budgets for so the chances are, the answer is no.

Imagine breaking down and being told you had to pay £150 for a tow home, would you have the spare cash or would the kids live on beans till the claim was settled?

have you heard of a credit card?

Not everybody has a credit card

And those that do, like myself, don't always feel the need to carry them unless they are actually planning to use them.

The company used to be called Autonational Rescue (with no strings attached :-D ). I have been with them for about 10 years. Cannot fault them. They have fixed my car on the roadside miles from home without any cost to myself. I have the full cover just in case!
#25
There still called autonational rescue thats another part of the company,They have been Autoaid for years i used them many years ago no problems at all.Although for £48 with more than i get full cover with european too.
#26
I am with them for about a year and used twice, no problems whatsoever. One thing in favour which I see is not pointed out is; you can claim unlimited times a year where as with the big boys you have I think about max 3 or 4 claims a year.

Bump - worth a reminder........

I have been with AutoAid for a year now and i'm very impressed with their service. I've had to call them out twice and in each case a someone has arrived within 30mins and got my car going again - on the roadside.

I should add that the £65 limit ONLY applies to HOME recoveries...please read the t&c's more carefully and stop scare-mongering. £36 a year is a great price especially since after two years, with no call outs, the RAC wanted to raise my premium from £90 to £120.

+1 for AutoAid.
