An absolute classic John Hughes films that would make a lot of people's Top 10 Films of the '80s. If you've not seen it, this is a brilliant price to get it at.

I've not seen any of the special features on this 2-Disc edition, but since this is at a cheaper price than the regular edition, it's definitely worth picking up for anyone who's not seen it or who doesn't own it.

I know that it's been released on Blu-Ray, but for anyone who's not interested or doesn't mind the DVD version, this is a pretty sweet price to pick it up at.

"They only met once, but it changed their lives forever.

Without doubt, John Hughes' The Breakfast Club is one of the greatest teen movies of all-time, if not the best. Without it, we might not have witnessed the phenomenal rise of the 'brat pack'; the group of actors synonymous with the teen films of the '80s.

They were five teenage students with nothing in common, faced with spending a Saturday detention together in their High School library. At 7am, they had nothing to say, but by 4pm, they had bared their souls to each other and become good friends. To the outside world they were simply the Jock, the Brain, the Criminal, the Princess, and the Kook, but to each other, they would always be the Breakfast Club.

The film's title comes from the nickname invented by students and staff for detention at the school attended by the son of one of John Hughes' friends. Thus, those who were sent to detention were designated members of "The Breakfast Club"."

Absolute classic. Heat added.

*sigh*

80's movies. Breakfast Club. St Elmo's Fire. Pretty In Pink. Some Kind Of Wonderful. They just don't seem to make movies like those any more. Some might say that's a good thing - but they all captured something special. Ah, nostalgia...... :)

i do love the '80s.
:)
it might not be the sort of thing you'd expect to be good, i definitely recommend watching Easy A if you're a fellow john hughes fan.
it's really good, with great nods to him throughout :)

I second that - Easy A really brought back the feel of John Hughes films.

Breakfast club would be in my top 5 teen films of all time along with Ferris Bueller's, Stand by me and prob some others I have forgotten!

What's 'Special' about this edition (apart from having two discs) ?
#10
Via Amazon: "The bonus disc has a 12-part documentary that I'd never seen before with cast members (Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall, the care-taker)and film-makers discussing the film and its cultural resonance. They also discuss the Brat Pack label and it's impact on the actors' careers. There are different parts for each character and the music soundtrack. "

*Edit - but missing is Judd Nelson/Anthony Michael Hall commentary that features on the region 1 edition apparently?

Very much a classic.

Anyone know if the blu-ray version is a decent upgrade in picture quality or is the DVD good enough?

Can anyone who's seen this listen to Don't You Forget About Me by Simple Minds without picturing Judd Nelson walking across the playing field with his fist in the air?!!!

Oh, one more thing - VIP passes, Simple Minds, this weekend - I hope they play that song!!! :-D

Managed to see them last year in a small theatre in New Zealand - and they played it. In fact they played everything I hoped they would. Was a great night. Hope you have a good time!
