What's so great about them ?
#2
They are Meade, I have some from years ago, superb quality lenses and build, for the mony they are a bargain
banned#3
they also have a refractor telescope for £49.99, is it worth it? starts the same time as the Binoculars.

thanks.

PS: it says they are made by Bresser, not Meade

I bought these from Lidl last year and they are superb. Take them horse racing. I go with my Uncle and he has a pair of £200 binoculars and he says these are better!
They are branded Bresser but they are actually Meade binoculars
#5
Might be popping in to Lidl at some point this week then.

Great spot, I've been after a good pair of binoculars for a while and these will do nicely!
#7
Good deal...well spotted....trip to Lidl in store.
#8
I got some of these last time they were on offer, very good for the money, I can recommend them.
#9
Bargain, but Lidl offers are a PITA. My nearest store is 14m away :-(
#10
Thanks, I've been after a pair for a while. Anyone know if the telescopes good as well?
#11
Would anyone be kind enough to get me a pair of these binoculars and post them on ? I don't have a local Lidl and am not able to get to the nearest one.

I would pay instantly by Bank Transfer (or your choice of payment) on receipt of goods plus of course postage and packing.

I can provide some sort of reference in Ebay and HUKD feedback and would supply my full details including landline number.

PM or contact me through this thread if interested.

Many thanks for considering :)

hmm, i'd be interested but they're pretty obtrusive and won't really fit in my trenchcoat very well

I'd be very grateful to you. Are you happy with the arrangements I put in my post or would you rather me pay you some sort of deposit once you have actually bought them ?

Let me know and again many, many thanks :santa:

Anyone know what's the main difference between this one and the 79.99 professional one? Any gain from the professional one? Thx.

I wouldn't want to view a TV through something like this personally but it takes all kinds, doesn't it ? Maybe just stand back a bit and get someone to turn the volume up...

HTH

(I have just registered to reply to this, so a big Hello from a long-time lurker!)

Firstly, I want to fully concur with the comment made earlier about the telescope. I bought one 3 or 4 years ago when it was £80 or so, and I would regard it as a really good investment. A few weeks ago when that comet suddenly brightened, it was great to be able to go out and get a really good look at it, without using wobbly binoculars or squinting around with my slightly iffy eyesight.

Like the binoculars, the telescope is made by Meade, and also sold by Bresser. Two very well respected names in the field of telescopes. The optics don't have a fancy coating, but chromatic aberration really is minimal. The eyepieces aren't brilliant (although perfectly usable) but they are a standard fit, so you can buy others from telescope retailers for £10 upwards.

If you need any more reassuring about it, Google for Lidl 70mm Telescope. When they first came out, the astronomy community were quick to decry this 'toy' simply because of it's price. Then one of them actually tried it, and now they are rather popular. Have a look here http://www.astroman.fsnet.co.uk/skylux.htm

Mine came with a very decent tripod (I believe it is the Bresser EQ-2 mount) but I see from some of the astro forums that they may have replaced this with one that isn't quite so sturdy. As has been said, the EQ-2 does have a motor drive available for it, at a price! Fortunately, a 'budget' version is available (hurrah!) it is around £29:99. (n.b. I don't have one myself, but am strongly considering it).

Googling gives (among others)
http://www.telescopesales.co.uk/mntsky.htm
http://www.opticalvision.co.uk/astronomical_accessories/general_accessories/r.a._economy_motor_drive_for_eq2

The motor doesn't automate it or anything, it just stops the moon / stars / planets / whatever drifting out of view due to the rotation of the earth.

These are excellent Bins, I bought mine last year, really clear and bright optics & good lens diameter to magnification ratio. LIDL seem to sell them periodically, so if you miss them this time you can be sure they'll be doing them again. Search for these on FleaBay and you'll see sellers flogging these for £30!!
#30
got the £50 telescope for my parents.. hopefully it's good
#31
I just picked up a pair. They're my first set of binoculars, and I'm blown away by the quality.

Being a fussy git (as my mates call me) I wasn't expecting much for £10 but after reading this thread I though't I'd pop to Lidl to take a look. If someone had shown me these and told my they'd bought them for £70 I'd have believed them!
#32
Got mine today and have to agree they are amazing quality!
#33
lots of people were buying the stuff when I popped in, night vision scope, telescopes, and binoculars... I didn't even know I had a LIDL locally.. it's just sprung up out of nowhere as I used to get annoyed seeing decent deals and not being able to pick them up :)

I got the expensive bins yesterday, they are brilliant, 7 lense system. They retail for around £200+ on most UK websites.

A brilliant set, I also got the £4.99 magnifier, which is also very good! Got the spotting scope last year and this is also good!! :D
