I personally think this is better value

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Breville-Hot-Cup-Boiling-Button/dp/B001L5SSGQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1270668652&sr=8-1

To me it seams to be the same thing from the same retailer for less

It may be cheaper but you've missed the important variable.
#3
Yep.., no variable button. The link u give is for the earlier model (the One Cup) there were a lot of complaints about this earlier model.. that have been sorted in this later Variable model.

If u read the Amazon customer reviews, u'll see one or two from owners of a similiar Tefal model and ex One Cup owners that say this model is a much better product.
#4
The people on Amazon seam to be happy with it, for £17 less i think the other one is better value so much so i ordered one.

This is a very cool gadget, and has the whole 'I'm not wasting electricity because I'm only boiling what I need to' green thing. But this is USELESS for if there is more than 2 of you wanting a cuppa, or if you need to water for cooking etc. Because you have to wait for each cup to boil and if you do more than a couple at a time the first ones have got rather cool. I accept they've fixed the issue here of the 250ml dispense and that you can now change this, but its still not a replacement for a kettle for most people due to the one cup of boiled water each time..
#6
Well I will let u know how it goes. We had an enormous fuel bill before Xmas so have become much more energy conscious so yes, the green issue is one of the reasons I bought it. However, if it DOES take 30 secs to fill a generous cup/mug with water.., u can only be waiting 2 mins or so for 4 cups/mugs.., and well, most kettles take longer than that just to boil lol.

Personally I think it'll be a lot better than getting bored waiting for a kettle to boil, walking off and doing something else, forgetting its boiling and coming back ten mins later having to boil it again lolol (happens to me all the time lol.., another reason I'm getting the One Cup Variable lol)
#7
yes if it does take only 30 secs to boil each cup i spose its not too bad, but id still find it annoying to make one persons cup then the next then the next, rather than making them all at once. But everyones different :)

I bought the Breville One Cup before xmas and took it back as it leaked, we had a quick cup which we still use but the breville one cup has much hotter water for tea, but it was anoying that you couldn't stop the amount of water coming out, this new model seems to have fixed it, love the idea you only boil a cup and not the entire kettle each time, but for now i'm staying with the one cup as we dont need tea boiling water, ours is great for peppermint tea and coffee. hot price

Not sure about these. I have a kettle and it works really well, looks great and it can boil 1 mug should I wish. I have had it for a year and hope to have it for a long time. Would this still work as well in 5 years?
#10
Been thinking about getting one of these fast boil kettles but have been put off by bad reviews in the past. This one looks good, I do tend to use quite large mugs so this one seems ideal with the variable output.

How does it cope with limescale?
#11
Gingerboy.., why shouldn't it?

I understand that this is a new model but there are poor reviews for the old one is this any better? One of the posters said theirs leaked so it was replaced.

I just think that they will be much better in a couple of years and the old ones will just be thrown away.

Seems easier to use the kettle and put in the water that you need, not too hard is it? Aside from that my kettle is better looking than this.

From a convenience point of view, with a kettle you have to take it to the tap and fill it every time you want one drink where as with the one cup you only need to do that every five drinks (old model (don't know how much water the new one holds)). Have to wait for kettle to boil so that you are there to pour into cup while water is still hot enough, with one cup you can just switch-on and come back in a few minutes with the knowledge that your drink is brewing waiting for you. The one cup is also safer than a kettle.

I've ordered one, thanks to OP, hopefully it will turn up by the middle of next week.

My One Cup Variable turned up this morning. It looks much better than the photo from Amazon.., u can see the black and shiny chrome much more clearly. I have to admit erm its had plenty of use (so much for its 'greener' effect - we've been playing and demonstrating [showing off] lol). You make sure its filled with enough water, put the coffee cup/mug in place, press a button, add coffee sugar etc to taste and by the time u've done that, the water's in the cup. Couldn't be any easier!

I am very pleased with it. The water capacity seems much larger than the 2L capacity, it fills my gigantic 500ml (16oz) mugs to just the right level (one setting below the top) and the spout is high enough that I think even tall latte mugs would fit. My one reservation before ordering was would it fill my large mugs.., and it does so to the ideal level as said.

And (important to me) it looks extremely stylish. It had better last at least a year lol.

The only problem is I saved money on this.., but now HAVE to get some nice 16oz mugs lol. My OH isn't overly pleased ha ha!

I've bought sooooo many kettles (I don't know how, I just seem to shorten their life somehow) work for 3 months.., 6 months etc and start leaking in spite of correct useage. I've bought expensive ones and dirt cheap one's .., none of them have lasted. As this one works slightly differently (no heating element in the bottom which is where my kettles always leak from) I am hoping this one will last a bit longer (and I didn't pay any more for it at this price).
#16
Thanks for that, I also like big mugs of tea so was a little worried that it might not fill my large cups in one go. Off to measure if my cups are indeed 500ml.
#17
lol good luck .., but they should be no bigger. One of the suggestions I came across (one of those blindingly obvious things u don't think of yourself somehow) was just filling a cup twice with a smaller measure of water.
#18
Yeah, that was going to be my workaround!
#19
A day later, this product is still amazing us lol. Nice to have a piping hot cup of coffee so quickly from such an attractive piece of equipment!
