These are good, but...................I ended up throwing away so many of my smaller mugs because unlike the newer version where you can alter the amount of water you cant with this one and the water used to over fill so had to tip some water out before stirring so tad annoying !! But good price if you use larger mugs.......no good for cups !!

I have one and its brilliant. Couldn't be without it. Yeah it's not perfect if you have bone China cups.

Re it not making boiling water?...let me throw it in your eyes and we can see how hot it is! Haha

But seriously, it is boiling as you hear it bubbling away in the machine. And even if it's a few C off. It's never mattered.

Mixed reviews. I need a new kettle, to keep the wife happy.
It seems to deliver a set amount every time; 250ml? Is this an issue to users?
Thanks.

yes set amount but you get to know which cups/mugs to use

Bought my mum the newer version... I was a little disappointed tbh, I thought it would be instant but it's not still takes a good 45/50 seconds which makes it pointless if making more than 1cup, she seems to like it though.

I think it takes more like 30s, and I believe it is designed for people who like me only want a cup :)
I had bought it for £25 on Amazon in August 2013 and I have been very happy with it.

I also have a large cheap tesco kettle to use when I went to prepare a teapot few times a year.

Yes suppose you could but the whole point of this machine was to make things easier and safer..... as we looked after vunerable adults and I didnt want them to have to pick up a hot kettle of water as some were physically disabled you see

I like that you can see the water but is useless if you have different size mugs, would never buy this even if it was £5

Boiling water in an instant

The Breville Hot Cup is designed to boil a cup of water in a matter of seconds, meaning great hot drinks at the touch of a button. It dispenses a 250 millilitre (ml) cup of boiling water--the equivalent of a standard drinking mug--and will dispense up to five cups without refilling--perfect for families or small offices.

The innovative patented technology ensures that water is only dispensed once it has reached boiling point, not simply very warm, but 100 degrees Celsius, making perfect hot drinks every time. In addition, the smooth and continuous flow of water keeps any splashing to a minimum.

By only boiling enough water for the number of cups you need, the Hot Cup is economical and energy efficient. There's no boiled water going to waste and it helps you save pennies on electricity bills.

Easy to use and easy to clean

The Breville Hot Cup features a fast boil 3 kilowatt (kW) concealed element which delivers maximum efficiency and keeps the water tank easy to clean. The 1.5 litre (l) capacity water tank is also easy to fill thanks to its lid release button. Press the button down to open and then fill the water tank with fresh, cold water just like you would a kettle.

The extra-large rear water window helps you accurately fill the water tank and once filled, you can place the it back on the base facing any angle as it's 360 degree (°) rotational. This means you don't have to line it up in a certain place to function.

Illumination on boil gives a blue hue

When activated, the tank illuminates to give a stylish blue glow to your kitchen. This modern design makes the Hot Cup a sophisticated addition to your kitchen worktop. And it continues to look good even when not in use thanks to its gloss black finish with smart stainless steel trim.

Mess is kept to a minimum as the drip tray at the base of the unit collects all stray spillages. It's easily removable for cleaning and is dishwasher safe. Also doing its bit to help keep your kitchen workspace tidy is the cord storage. This coils loose and unused cord under the base of the unit so that it's not swamping your kitchen and taking up unwanted space and the base itself is non- slip so you don't have to worry about it slipping on your work surface.

Breville is the leading brand of small home kitchen appliances in the UK, with a hugely successful range of products across the spectrum of kitchen appliances including kettles, toasters, irons, blenders, food processors, microwaves and many others. Breville's success is driven by innovation and design, as well as a determination to provide great looking, high quality products that meet the demands of every kitchen in the country.

NOTE: The boiling and dispensing method does create a different noise to that of a kettle

Errr..

Fill a cup with the amount of water you require, & pour that water into the machine.
Put the empty cup under the spout.
Switch on the machine & wait for the water to reach the cup again (only hotter this time).
Add additional beverage making elements to taste.
Enjoy.

These become annoying if you want to fill anything larger than a cup, or more than a couple at a time.
Personally I think the Tefal's are much better
- you can preset them to your specific mug or cup size, so a single press gives you that one cup
- but you can stop it mid flow if wanting half a cup, or have an emergency, these Brevilles just heat up the entire amount and shoot it out in one swoop (if you forget the cup, it falls over, anyone gets near it.. you see the point)
- you can also just keep your finger on it and it will give you more, so can fill a jug for soup/mash/stock etc, or want a top up.
- also dispenses filtered cold water if needed (though personally rarely use this, it is handy)

*edit* having said all that, it seems the Tefal's are now unavailable! So, let me just say - these Breville's are the best available :D

the Brevilles are also a pain to fill, the handle's round the back making it difficult to get to, it's got a small pop up lid like a normal kettle.

yes it is as hershemad pointed out, it overfills small cups and fills normal mugs to the brim, put the tea bag in and there is no room for milk

I'm not that impresses with ours. If you're only making a single brew is not to bad, the more you make the slower it seems. for 2 or more brews, so long as you bill what you need a standard kettle will be quicker and more efficient. Operation is noisy and at some point you will forget to put a cup under. You can alter how much is dispensed and the water doesn't come out quite as hot as from a normal kettle. That's my opinion anyway.

I got mine today come this morning used it loads already didn't relise I had to put the cup under and it just went in the drip tray and never over filled so very impressed its great I used in both cups and mugs an been fine. once you relise the cup has to go under then you don't forget and its so quick dont know what people are talking about with it being slow I made 3 cups of coffee quicker then using a normal kettle and is easier as comes out the precised amount of water no more puddles on the side from teenagers using a normal kettle its great <3

Just bought one from Asda at £25 and made 3 hot brews in seconds, looks like it will be put to good use.
