Manufacturer's Description
The Breville VKJ142 Hot Cup offers boiling hot water at the touch of a button to deliver delicious hot drinks in an instant. Its patented design means you only boil one cup at a time saving time, money and energy.

1.5 litre illuminating water tank

Boiled water at the touch of a button

Easy to fill water tank works just like a kettle

Save on spills with the detachable drip tray
Boiling water in an instant

The Breville Hot Cup is designed to boil a cup of water in a matter of seconds, meaning great hot drinks at the touch of a button. It dispenses a 250 millilitre (ml) cup of boiling water--the equivalent of a standard drinking mug--and will dispense up to five cups without refilling--perfect for families or small offices.

The innovative patented technology ensures that water is only dispensed once it has reached boiling point, not simply very warm, but 100 degrees Celsius, making perfect hot drinks every time. In addition, the smooth and continuous flow of water keeps any splashing to a minimum.

By only boiling enough water for the number of cups you need, the Hot Cup is economical and energy efficient. There's no boiled water going to waste and it helps you save pennies on electricity bills.

Easy to use and easy to clean

The Breville Hot Cup features a fast boil 3 kilowatt (kW) concealed element which delivers maximum efficiency and keeps the water tank easy to clean. The 1.5 litre (l) capacity water tank is also easy to fill thanks to its lid release button. Press the button down to open and then fill the water tank with fresh, cold water just like you would a kettle.

The extra-large rear water window helps you accurately fill the water tank and once filled, you can place the it back on the base facing any angle as it's 360 degree (°) rotational. This means you don't have to line it up in a certain place to function.

Illumination on boil gives a blue hue

When activated, the tank illuminates to give a stylish blue glow to your kitchen. This modern design makes the Hot Cup a sophisticated addition to your kitchen worktop. And it continues to look good even when not in use thanks to its gloss black finish with smart stainless steel trim.

Mess is kept to a minimum as the drip tray at the base of the unit collects all stray spillages. It's easily removable for cleaning and is dishwasher safe. Also doing its bit to help keep your kitchen workspace tidy is the cord storage. This coils loose and unused cord under the base of the unit so that it's not swamping your kitchen and taking up unwanted space and the base itself is non- slip so you don't have to worry about it slipping on your work surface.

Breville is the leading brand of small home kitchen appliances in the UK, with a hugely successful range of products across the spectrum of kitchen appliances including kettles, toasters, irons, blenders, food processors, microwaves and many others. My Mother has one of these, Slower to boil one cup than using a kettle for the equivalent amount of water. Better spending money on a nice kettle.

Then hers must be faulty. We have one of these and have used is several times a day for two years. Its great. These devices NEVER get the water as hot as a kettle (never truly boiling), but its plenty hot enough for tea/coffee. Excellent device - way quicker than a kettle. Does take 30-40 boils before the funny factory flavour/twang to wear off mind, so stick with it!

Yes, as 'happy1' says hers must be faulty, the hot water should come out within a few seconds of pressing the button.

We had one, it failed under 6 months old, as did the replacement and therefore we never had a 3rd. Ours was a gift, I'd have never have bought it tbh - build is very plasticky and looks really cheap.

The storage container on the back isn't big enough imo either, it's true the water out the spout isn't as hot as a kettle - it's very good for coffee I believe for obv reasons - not so for tea. If you must have one like this the tefal one (which we asked for on the list....) is much better.

Had one of these for a few years now, got it originally because it was easier for my partners mum to use than having to lift the kettle, it is used daily and is still going strong.
Water comes out hot but not quite boiling, only thing have noticed is the amount that comes out each time varies a bit

Have to disagree with most of the negative comments, I bought one of these about 2mths ago think it is absolutely brilliant, they are updated models and the 1st cup takes nowhere near as long as a kettle to boil, and second cup faster, good points water is really hot I drink loads of tea and I am quite fussy, this was my husbands Idea but must admit very impressed, also ideal if you want to drop your teabag in your mug press the button and walk off to do something else, when you come back a few minutes later tea is brewed!!! defo hot from me!!

The 'tea bag drop 'n walk' is exactly what I do !

These are great, unlike those awful tefal variants. Have to laugh at the comments saying the water doesn't boil. The water is dispensed under the pressure of the water itself boiling! Think some people might be getting confused with the tefal.

I have this model, it takes around 40 seconds to boil and disperse. Highly recommended.

I got one of these last time they were on offer here for my mom and dad as my mother suffers badly with Arthritis and they swear by it. My dad loves it as he can drop his mug under with his coffee in and wander off to do something and come back to a great hot cup of coffee, been brilliant for them. As for he 'not hot enough' comments, no idea where that comes from, short of sticking an element straight into a cup i don't see how you get it any hotter?

Nowt wrong with the second version of the Tefal, water is plenty hot enough for tea / coffee and looks pretty smart too

i have one of these they are great

Had one of these and sent back - ok if you live on your own as there is no option to boil more than 1 cup at a time- making it compleatly unpratical for having guests over, also, i found that i couldn't dispense correct amounts for packet sauces and hot water to boil veg etc- bit of a fad that will soon fade, don't get sucked in if your household consists of more that 1 person

No she has had several of these and now she has the expensive variable output one, they have a use and some people love them just as some will swear that breadmakers are brilliant along with the breville sandwich maker. Its each to their own. For me after going round to her house and using one, I just don't see the point. Of course that is only my opinion but it is based on using one.

I have one and all these opinions are sorta right in a way! Personally I find mine a pain if I have guests, I have to boil it like 4 times, love it for doing gravy and noodles etc, it's quite quick there! Am fancying an old style kettle again now

I measured the water at 96c exiting tap ... having said that I've never found that a problem.

After boiling the water travels through a pipe from the bottom heating chamber up to the top and out the spout. A little heat loss is to be expected. Same as the water in a normal kettle very quickly stops boiling after it switches off.
