I was just in the Edinburgh store and saw this great film for a quid! It was the 1 disc version I believe.

A prizewinner at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival for Originality of Vision, Brick is Rian Johnson's debut feature as writer and director and stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Mysterious Skin), Lukas Haas (Last Days) and Emilie de Ravin (Lost).

Brendan Frye is a loner, someone who knows all the angles but has chosen to stay on the outside. When the girl he loves turns up dead, he is determined to find the "who" and "why" and plunges into the dark and dangerous social strata of rich girl Laura, intimidating Tug, drug-addled Dode, seductive Kara, and the ominous Pin. But who can he really trust?

Brick turns the American high-school genre on its head, injecting hard boiled dialogue and a classic film noir style reminiscent of The Maltese Falcon and Chinatown. An original, absorbing mystery that will leave you spellbound.

Was going to post this myself but forgot which film it was. Thought the film was a bit up itself but a great price anyway - hot.

Great film noir, the director actually understood the genre rather than make it look a bit noirish.

Agreed ! Great Film !? ;-)

on my list of "worse films" I have ever seen
#8
Superb film. To take a noir and set it in a high school and make it work took great skill. Helped immensely by Gordon-Levitt's performance.

Buy it!!!

I enjoyed it... I think it's good that some people don't understand it, though. Otherwise all cinema would go the way of TV and dumb down to the lowest common denominator.

Eh? It would be better if everyone understood it, then TV and movies would be far less dumbed down to the "lowest common denominator" level.

This film is fantastic. Adds a new dimension to the teen drama, instead of the tired old predictable formula.

Hot Deal, Terrible film.

If I want Noir I'll stick to the classics like Detour or Double Indemnity.
#17
Terrible Film.

My rule of thumb on films - a film is only any good if it's got a chainsaw murder in it

This is a great movie!

Great film.

Shame I'm nowhere near a store :(

Very strange movie, visually stunning at times, but all style imo

Oh!!...Its a film. Was thinking of building a wall.
#22
great film, but judging by the comments not for everyone but for a pound go for it you'll either love it or hate it.

This is the film that made me fall in love with Nora Zehetner. A big +9 from me.

Some peculiar, yet interesting dialog from what I remember - this wasn't a bad show and you could do much worse for a quid!!

I put this on after watching 2 episodes of 24.

Watched about half an hour of it, then put 24 back on. Said id give it ago another time.. that was 2 years ago.

Watch 'Mysterious Skin', quite dark but much better. Also starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Just watched Feast - you'd love that!

And Pontypool too - a subtle horror mind**** but really good!

Mysterious Skin is fantastic (as is most of Arakis other output), and Levitt was excellent in it but not quite the same type of movie.
