I bought one of these awhile back for the same price, just so people know they tend to be quite leaky at the back if you fill the resivoire up and are too bulky for the fridge door, I wouldn't recommend them really. Just 2 pence worth for anyone thinking about it. Sorry OP no reflection on your deal! :3

Just a very dumb question, what do these filters do, really? Do they really do all the things they claim to do on the box?

We use one all the time for drinking and boiling water for tea and coffee. It lives by the sink and kettle, never in the fridge. Probably refilled at least four times a day. It gets rid of any taste in the unfiltered water and provided you replace the cartridge regularly then it's worthwhile IMHO.

It does make a difference depending where you live.

I always get like a scum when using unfiltered water and it sticks to the side of the cup. When using a Brita filter it does stop and the water does appear clear. The only thing I can suggest is getting a cheaper Brita and try making a brew without the filter and one with. I haven't stopped using mine ever since I got one. Replaced it once. Didn't need to but I thought what the hell.
