don't forget Brita runs a free part replacement scheme, if you break any parts just ask online for a replacement

I don't think so. A couple of years ago I asked for a new one of the timers (the ones which tell you when to change the filter) and they posted it with no questions asked... This is probably because they make their money mostly from the filters, so if the jug breaks, they would stop selling you new filters :).
