"Take away the worry with British Gas HomeCare"

LOL, that's got to be one of the funniest lines ever.

Would like to know why people feel this is cold

I would never use British Gas even if my life depended on it. we paid them £100 a year for 10 years and they failed to spot a big hole in the flue that was leaking carbon monoxide into the house. Wouldn't even say sorry! Took them to Small Claims Court and got my money back though.

I often think that if the OP explained why they think it is hot, rather than pasting specs or prices, then that helps others decide which way to vote.

To be fair, it's pretty self explanatory as to why the OP thinks it's a good deal - it's 15% off for an insurance product that lots of people use.

I would add that whilst peoples' negative experiences with British Gas service contracts are often heard, people rarely talk about this sort of thing when everything goes well. To redress the balance a bit, I have had a Homecare 200 contract for a couple of years and have been really impressed. I've had 2 problems with the boiler. The 1st last year was fixed quite easily, and the 2nd recently is a bit of an ongoing intermittent fault. The engineers have been great in trying to find out exactly what the problem is and to fix it. I have had 4 visits and several possible culprit parts changed in the boiler until the problem was solved. Can't really ask for more than that. I can't imagine how much it would have cost to get a local serviceman to deal with it.

I had a British Gas HomeCare, and because I didn't use British Gas to replaced 3 radiators that were leaking they refused to fix a problem I had had with my central heating system, which were unrelated to the 3 replacement radiators. British Gas said because I used a 3rd party to replaced 3 radiators I null and void the HomeCare contract. I searched the terms & conditions regarding using a 3rd party fitter and found nothing.

I signed up to British Gas HomeCare 18 years ago and only used them twice and on both occasions was treated like rubbish and fobbed off.

ps. My cousin is a corgi registered plummer with over 20 experience installed the 3 radiators.

His price - nothing
BG gas price £1,800 that including flushing the system at a cost of £720

:x

Sorry voted COLD

well .. I have to say i use british gas and although they can be a nightmare .. the homecover has really helped me in the past as specially when your boiler isnt the greatest!! on that note i have to say dont ever buy a biasi boiler!! but rep given as im about to retake it at my new address for £21 pcm for same thing!! thanks to big al i have made a saving of £1.50pcm (approx) by ringing them and telling them i want home cover 300 for £19.80 pcm its still a saving!!! thanks

£40 quidco, too.

I've had them out twice, no bother at all.

Ours is an "ideal" boiler, which they tell me will go forever.

although I haven't voted for this deal I presume people voted it cold because:

1. It works out cheaper if you use Quidco to take this deal.

Based on £13 for the cost of Homecare 100 on their website the £40 quidco knocks this down to £9.66 per month

2. the prices quoted by BG are 'from' prices and are jacked up by British Gas based on postcode lottery (especially if you are within the M25)

3. The prices apply only in the first year after which British Gas bump them up whether you have used them or not.

Overall whilst I have had this agreement in the past (Homecare 400 which should cover everything to do with boiler, drains and electrics) with them I am wary if doing it again because of their exclusions when it came to claiming under the policy.

For those that may be tempted by this offer, you should be aware of the following. If BG decides that the fault with your heating system is due to a blockage that requires flushing, they won’t do this as part of the contract. Instead they will offer to do it at a cost that is more than double the going rate. If it doesn’t work they will refund the charge and leave you with a heating system that doesn’t work. If you go to an independent company and ask them to flush the system, not only will they keep flushing the system until it clears, they may suggest ways of preventing a re-occurrence of the problem. Having got the system working, if you then ask BG to do anything they will refuse, on the basis that you shouldn’t have involved a third party.

I'm waiting to get out of my contract with them. They turned up, after I reported a leak, and half fixed it. The boiler is about 3 years old. They said they would be in touch to arraign to come back as it was a big job. They were in touch but only to chase the £50. I for one won't be using them again. After mentioning that I had problems with them at work, I got another 4 stories about how bad they are.
I don’t remember the web page, or was it the newspaper, but I found out there are cheaper options than BG and they can't be as bad.
Sorry voted cold as they are $%^&* - translated to “Not very good”

after reading everyones experiences, i must be very lucky, ive been with them for over a year and have had them out 12 times for everything, my dodgy boiler, my tiolets, and this week i had a lovely man out @ 1am fixing my eletrics which were sparking everytime my power tripped, this has been a god send as i'm moving house and have had loadsa stuff replaced, just in time for my buyers surveyor visiting, i will be taking this out in my new house, just dont know wether to go through quidco or not.
