To answer my own question :

The rebate is available to dual fuel and single fuel customers.

To qualify for the rebate customers must be in receipt of at least one of the following benefits:

Disability Living Allowance
Pension Credit
Attendance Allowance
War Disablement Pension, which includes either a Mobility Supplement or Constant Attendance Allowance
Disablement Pension, which includes Constant Attendance Allowance
Carer's Allowance
Severe Disability Allowance
Child Tax Credit and with an annual household income of £14,600 or less
Working Tax Credit and with an annual household income of £14,600 or less
Council Tax Benefit
Housing Benefit
Income Support
Income based Job Seeker's Allowance

How do I apply?

British Gas will be identifying and sending letters to customers that it considers are most vulnerable to hardship because of the latest price rises.

These customers will receive letters soon telling them about the 2006/07 rebate scheme.

At the same time, any customers in receipt of a qualifying benefit can call and register an interest in being included in the scheme on: 0845 601 2006.

Please note: Not everyone who qualifies and applies for a rebate will receive one. Although millions of people will be in receipt of at least one of the above benefits, availability is limited to just 300,000 rebates.

How much do I get?

Eligible gas customers receive two payments of £30. Eligible electricity customers receive two payments of £15. Both are credited to their energy bills.

British Gas said that pre-payment customers will be advised nearer the time about how their rebate will be made.

When will I get the money?

The first payment will be on the customer's last bill of 2006, and the second payment on their first bill of 2007.

What if I move house?

If you move house during the period of the agreement it may be transferred to your new address.

What if I change supplier?

Then any outstanding payments will be cancelled

There are times that I do agree with you!! In this country at times you are worse off if you work full time! I know people on benefits who are definitely not what you would call poor or hard up!

However I am sure there are plenty of people out there who do struggle and this will help a little

If they weren't poor then they wouldn't be on benefits . You tar the very same people with the same brush because some are actually better off due to whatever means they supplement income , black economy or not . A day will come when you are on benefits , will you still have the same attitude then ?

What a nasty person ! It makes my blood boil people like you more than likely have plenty , most peopl on benefits really struggle to make ends meet . Sounds like a typical fat cat with a big bank balance to me , GREEDY SELFISH PERSON:x

Just a few points, if people on benefits are so hard up then how come you have broadband and a computer? How many of you have sky? How manny of you smoke and go out at the weekend. The government has made society lazy by giving benefits away too easily, Yes i agree some people are in need of help but others are playing the system! Den169 i agree with you!!! And one more thing how many people on benefits manage to go away on a holiday each year? - Another human right i suppose!!!!! Have some rep Den for making a SENSIBLE coment

dont suppose statutory maternity benefit counts?
#12
Thanks Manj_007 and just for the record mr rumbles i'm no fat cat with a big bank balance i.m a normal working bloke who doesn't get any benefits whatsoever.I do know plenty people on benefits and not one of them is struggling to make ends meet.Like Manj_007 says most of them have a car bb pc's free dental care free prescriptions rates paid rents paid free leasure passes etc etc the list goes on and on and the world would come to an end if they didn't have sky tv.

Not all people on benefits dont work .
( yes there are some that play the system )
But most have no choice
I work more hours than most but my money will not support me my wife and two children and one of them is disabled so my wife hasnt a choice if she works or not.

I agree if people need help they should get it, in your case it is justified but there are people out there that cant be arsed to get up and get a job because they get more from benefits or would only be slightly better off, if people were that desperate for money any job would do and they wouldnt be picky or want to be paid silly money.
#15
Well done you djnaff
I have my own views like you but do not think this is the right place for arguments. Imke69 was only trying to help
#16
djnaff anyone who is genuinley disabled deserves everything they can get and should be well looked after really,I wasn't slagging anyone on benefits i was just stating not all people on benefits are poor.I have no gripe with anyone on benefits who cannot work and need help or pensioners etc.But there are just too many milking the system now.
djnaff i'm sorry if i offended you.

There are genuinely needy people in this country, please don't get personal here

He started it it or is the above not personal.

I don't care who started, this is NOT the place

As far as I'm aware don't some people only live on £36 a week on benefits , if so then its amazing how they manage and there are some people who will begrudge them just £60 for there gas so they can keep warm.

So much for a caring society.

Its people who already have money and try to fiddle the system which gets to me , but people who need it and are poor and cant get a job due to lack of qualifications then why begrudge someone such a small amount?

Or would you sooner them starve or freeze to death?
