Might be worth a punt - Next nearest price £70. Release date of 17 Nov.

All nine double-disc volumes of the BFI's fabulous British Transport Films archive (volume 9 comes in late 2008), which forms an important and enduring records of Britain's transport heritage. However, the films have a much wider appeal than transport, as they give a social history of the country from the early 1950s through to the mid 1980s.

Pre-order Price Guarantee

Amazon.co.uk's price for not-yet-released items sometimes changes between the time the item is listed for sale and the time it is released and dispatched. Whenever you pre-order a book, CD, video, DVD, software, or video game, the price you pay will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.co.uk between the time you placed your order and up to and including the release date. A pre-order price guarantee message will appear on your Order Summary during the checkout process. If you use 1-Click ordering, pre-order price guarantee protection will be automatically applied. The order summary in Your Account will reflect the lowest price within 24 hours of the price change.

Terms and Conditions:

Pre-order Price Guarantee applies only to items sold by Amazon.co.uk, and not to items (or prices) offered by third party sellers on Amazon.co.uk's Auctions, zShops or Marketplace or at any of Amazon.co.uk's Trusted Partner sites, or from Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.co.jp,Amazon.ca or Amazon.com or any of its affiliates.
Pre-order Price Guarantee applies only to not-yet-released books, CDs, videos, DVDs, software, and video games sold by Amazon.co.uk. It does not apply to other product lines or to items that have already been released.
Pre-order Price Guarantee applies only to items displaying the Pre-order Price Guarantee offer ("Offer") message on their product detail pages. Items that do not display the Offer message do not qualify, regardless of the nature of the items.
If your order enters the dispatch process before the release date and the price is subsequently lowered on or before the release date, we will automatically refund your payment card for the difference between the price you were charged and the release-date price. If you paid by cheque the refund amount will be automatically placed in your Amazon.co.uk account for future purchases. If you would prefer to receive the refund by cheque, please contact Customer Service.

Pre-orders placed on or after 12 October 2007, which either a) have a Publication date (for books) or a Release date (for CD, video, DVD, software, or video game items) on or after 25 February 2008; or b) have not been dispatched on or before 25 February 2008, will be eligible for the Pre-order Price Guarantee.

The ones at £70 are 17 discs: http://www.whsmith.co.uk/CatalogAndSearch/ProductDetails--879412.htmlA 17 disc (TBC) collection containing all of the British Transport Films released by BFI over the last few years. Yeah - there's a bit of a discrepancy on the no of disks - Amazon actually show it as an 8 disk set :? The whsmith's one does say 18 in the title though

Worth a pop - cheers bookie!

The Amazon set looks to be a different one, and not the 17/18 disc set. Anyone know any more?

There's a reference here http://dvd.ciao.co.uk/British_Transport_Films_Vol_4_DVD__6551405 to it being £75-00 at Amazon and if you clink the link it takes you to the deal page.

Same title & ASIN number is 120 Euros on Amazon.de

There's a website for British Transport Films here http://www.britishtransportfilms.co.uk/ and a list of DVDs (though not the DVD set) here .

The existing collections I assume are the 8 x 2 disc collections so far = 16 disc plus
"GEOFFREY JONES : THE RHYTHM OF FILM" and "Night Train"
OR it includes the as yet unreleased volume 9 i.e. 9x2 = 18

It's not unusual for Amazon to misreport the number of disc in a multi-disc collection

Cheers OP.

Have given this a go; will make a nice present for someone if it works out.

Not good news! If they've (mis)sold that many, there's a lot of money at stake to fulfill all the orders.;-)
#16
Yep - agree with Newbold on that. Looks like there was some bulk buying going on there.
