"+ £9.99 up front cost for USB Modem"

Better off getting the dongle for £10 delivered (this thread HERE), unlocking it yourself for free, buying an iPhone sim off eBay, then unlimited free broadband for one year for a tenner :whistling:. Or just use a pay and go sim of your choosing.

I have real internet.

But I am interested in this free internet business. Could you explain further please?

Is this
"O2 iPhone 3G Pay & Go Sim Card"

and this
http://www.3dongle4free.co.uk/

really a recipe for free internet?

You can read more about it in this thread HERE. Basically o2 give iPhone users free mobile broadband for 1 year after topping up £10 for the first time. Just buy an iPhone sim off ebay for a couple of quid, stick it in a dongle and top up, free bb. Well free as long as o2 don't notice. As long as you don't take the **** with your downloads you should be good to go. A lot of people have been getting away with this for months now. If they cut you off then no big loss. Rinse and repeat.

for the o2 iphone sim to work in a o2 dongle you have to change the settings on the dongle....

click on "tool menu"
click on "profile"
click on "new"
clicck on "new cellular profile"
click on "connection settings"

user name vertigo

password payandgo

apn payandgo.o2.co.uk

then click "ok"

now the dongle will except the sim :-D

I've read on other forums using an iphone sim is risky, because you could be left with a massive bill later on. But if you don't register the sim, top up £10 by cash, & have a non contact dongle bought with cash (can't trace imei number) how can they? Surely the worse they can do is take your remaining credit & cancel your sim.

That's not possible and not what they'd do anyway. Just go to your local post office and buy a top up voucher using cash like you suggested. That way you can activate your sim and o2 don't have any of your details . From what I understand all that happens when/if they catch you is they stop the free broadband. You still get to keep your remaining credit etc.
