Love is a force of nature.

From Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee, comes an epic American love story, Brokeback Mountain; the winner of the Golden Lion Award for Best Picture at the 2005 Venice Film Festival, winner of four Golden Globes and winner of three Oscars (Best Director for Ang Lee, Best Score for Gustavo Santaolalla and Best Adapted Screenplay for Diana Ossana & Larry McMutry)!

The film is based on the short story by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annie Proulx, adapted by Diana Ossana and the great Larry McMurtry (scribe and author of The Last Picture Show).

Set against the sweeping vistas of Wyoming and Texas, the film tells the story of two young men - a ranch-hand and a rodeo cowboy - who meet in the summer of 1963 and unexpectedly forge a lifelong connection; one whose complications, joys and tragedies provide a testament to the endurance and power of love.

I liked this movie. probably the first movie that didnt make me feel uncomfortable as a straight man. Also the first movie which portrays gay people in perhaps a more favourable light. Rather than the usual where gay people are portrayed as overly feminine, b*tchee, whiny, soulless, lonely, promiscuous fashionista wannabes.

By the end of the movie, you actually root for the two guys to have a happy life together.

Ok, so I didn't cry or anything, but the ending hit me like a truck. I was quiet for a whole day or so lol. Very profound and affecting, this.

Rep added just for being intelligent and awesome and not saying anti-gay like I was expecting from every male reviewer who was trying to make a macho point

Heat added, have wanted to watch this since it came out, bought it on sky box office once but the signal died just as it started!

Hot price - but what a depressing miserable film - well worth watching - but I couldn't imagine anyone watching it twice :-(

Hey as I've seen it can I act homophobic?

I hate infedellity - in real life or film - so where they married and then ripped their wives lives apart just tore me up; but somehow despite them having acted such ******* you still stay sympathetic to the characters and as has been said want for them to have a happy life together at the end.
#14
Your objection to their infidelity isn't homophobia, but it sounds like you're using the infidelity as an excuse to justify homophobia.

Yeah, but you can expect white trash, black trash, orange trash, council trash, bible trash, social trash to come in here and start "this isn't halaal" arguments, "i am not homophobic but i dont agree with this" arguments, and the ever interesting "god hates gays" arguments.

This guy is just feels less insecure and better as a person by arguing the two men were cheating on their wives, and he probably brings up his ever so staunch morals to slate a very good piece of cinema which deals with a lot more than infidelity and homophobia. (shows how stupid he is as didn't they meet and fall in love BEFORE either of them were married?). It's like the overzealous texas catholics, or the brooklyn ethnics - every word out of their mouth is jesus this, jesus that, and church and God - yet they have the highest rate of infidelity, teenage preagnancy, and illigitimate children.

Anyways, I think brokeback shouldn't be regarded as a gay movie. It's just a movie about love and how if two people conform to social norms, they may sacrifice their one true love, and how it can lead to a lot of lives being affected and broken.

I say that, because it needs saying, no one else on this website would. Now i think I'll will stay away from this thread, because I am sure someone "victimised" is going to be crying to the moderator saying I was being racist in my post, or inappropriate or something. Which you should know I was not.

Take a chill pill.

He was just making a sarcastic point regarding the other poster's assertion that you can't be homophobic if you haven't seen it. Logically speaking, this statement allows the possibility that you can be homophobic if you have watched it. His point is only sarcastic because he agrees that you shouldn't be homophobic either way.

The bit about infidelity was an entirely separate point.

He didn't even mention religion.

I now make a comment on the film - I hate infidellity... ...despite that I had sympathy for the lead characters (clearly making me a homophobe?).

Swissrebel makes an ass of himself using that as justification to call me a homophobe.

Madonna Project makes an even bigger ass of himself / herself - ripping into Christianity using this flimsy excuse - saying I 'slated' the movie (how? when?) etc. etc.

I suggest the two of you go grow up a little and try and read what people actually post and not just what you want to see. :)

HOT deal - depressing movie - well worth watching

No it isn't I watched for 50miniutes and was bored silly, so didnt watch the end. I would stomach the grotesque sex scenes if it was a good movie, but it isn't.I don't have a problem with gays, just boring movies

CHeap as chips this DVD, but a waste of 90-120miniutes of your life you'll never get back so voting COLD

Awesome film making, and acting and stunning outdoors scenes, it's not a gay fiim, it just has two characters who fall in who happen to be men, in a place and time where they were unwelcome.

It's a very moving film, I don't see anything comical about it.

Well, I have to say I loved this film too. I agree with the earlier comment that from the outset the main characters were not overtly camp, or bitchy, or quenney etc. Just two "straight acting" gay guys who fell in love. I think women should sit down with their fellas because they too will be shedding a tear at the end of this film (they wont admit it of course!) but they will

Well, a woman doesn't have the revulsion most men have for the gay act. Read about this, and it didn't make the money or the audiences it had claimed for it.
Quite obvious why.;-)

Its a gay movie. Women will watch it with no inhibitions. Some men will watch it and enjoy it. Some because they're gay, others because they're EXPECTED to say it's good. (First casualty of political correctness is honesty !)

In all seriousness though. I couldn't bring myself to watch a gay love story. I'd be too busy throwing up.

Here we go...the old "homophobia" cr*p.....
Criticism not allowed !
Hey, enjoy your gay stuff. Each to their own. Just don't start spouting your -ism or -phobic tripe, please.
Heath Ledger proved what a great actor he was as the Joker. No doubt he will be here. I just find the subject stomach-wrenching. You don't - so what ? Thats life pal, get used to it.
#28
...actually, a little "rider" about this.
Apparently the cowboys of this area in the film have had their jobs laughed at (I had originally put "snìgger" but it wouldn't let me ! I had to use charmap to replace the i with an ì !) Another example of hair trigger offence taking these days !) at since this movie.
The REAL cowboys have been the subject of gay and fairy taunts ever since.

Funny how the price paid is never by those that start this then move on, isn't it ?

I hated this film. I thought it was dull and I didn't feel anything for the characters. I went in with an open mind and expected to see a film about two guys growing to love each other against the odds but that is not what this film is at all. As someone else has said, I think it did so well because people felt they had to like it or be judged for not liking it.

Dull, overrated tosh if you ask me.

the grotesque sex scenes????? come on straight sex isn't that bad and Michelle Williams isn't exactly ugly!
Although the sex scene in the back of the car with Jake and Anne Hathaway may repulse some viewers.
If you blinked you would have missed the very brief and unrevealing gay sex scene.
you're another ignorant person posting here.

Right, right. Usual "how dare you have a negative opinion" Pink Nazi tripe:roll:
Enjoy your gay stuff. Don't expect me to say it's a milestone of movies
IT ISN'T
Its a gay movie, nothing more noble than that.
I enjoyed "Cruisin'" years ago with Al Pacino - which is essentially about the Homo Club scene.
Watched it with my wife, saying "Yeuch" frequently, but excellent script, excellent direction (both gays I gathered) and good acting.
Fascinating. No pretending to be sodding "art" like this:whistling:

And the obsession people like you have with censorship shines out with your last line.
Nazi I said, and nazi it is.

Censorship of another persons view because it is the opposite of your own is one of the uglier sides of the -ist, or -phobia shouters.

Hmm, and YOUR last line totaly contradicts itself! You are perfectly free to think what you like about the film (personally, I didn't think it was all that either), but your basis being the gay theme 'making you throw up' is offensive and frankly pathetic.
How am I advocating a 'pink Nazi stripe' ?(good work by the way, managing to offend the gay community and the Jewish community in one swoop.....anyone else you'd care to have an ill informed swipe at?) Surely my opinion is as valid as your own? Or maybe it's YOU with the 'nazi' tendency.....

Enjoy your News of The World.
