Great price, and great to see a resurgence of point and click adventures recently, with Sam & Max, Wallace & Gromit and this.

With Telltale games being some ex-LucasArts employees (Sam & Max, Wallace & Gromit) and Broken Sword being Revolution Software (Lure Of The Temptress, Beneath A Steel Sky, Broken Sword) it makes me wonder if LucasArts would ever consider a return into point and clicks after deeming them non viable after a decline in sales in the late 90s. Problem there though, with TellTale games forming whether there would be the creative strength left at LucasArts to carry on games such as Monkey Island and Grim Fandango, or even new titles.....those of us that are still fans of the point and click though can only hope LucasArts either reconsider, or let the franchises go to other developers.

Great price - £40 pre-order at Amazon, and the game looks great too. Wonder if we will get the Dave Gibbons graphic novel in this pack?

Good preview of the game here:

SCUMM is an acronym for "Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion" & refers to the point'n'click interface used in some classic LucasArts graphical adventure games.

So many LucasArts "Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion" [SCUMM(tm)] titles that I played in the late 80s/early 90s on my main gaming machine (an IBM PC-compatible platform) spring to mind...

"Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure"
"The Secret of Monkey Island"
"Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge"
"Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis"
"(Maniac Mansion) Day of the Tentacle"
"Sam & Max Hit the Road"

I tried "The Dig" but didn't really, erm, 'dig' it, and then I took to PlayStation gaming thereafter, but returned to the 'point'n'click' interface with the PS2 title "Escape from Monkey Island" a few years after it was released (in 2000). The Grim Engine ("GrimE") replaced "SCUMM" from 1998's release, "Grim Fandango", as "SCUMM" was designed to render 2-Dimension characters, and advancements since it was first used in 1987 meant that 3D characters could now be presented in real-time.

In 2002, "The Dig", "Day of the Tentacle", "Full Throttle", and "Sam & Max Hit the Road" were re-released as Microsoft Windows-playable versions (640x480 resolution), but I doubt I would have the time to play again.

I think my favo[u]rite was "Day of the Tentacle"... so much so that if anybody ever says the word "Later" to me... I run the line "What's going to happen later?" through my head from the second stage of the game ("Founding Fathers"). Sad, but true.

"Sam & Max" are having a bit of a revival at present as well.

Apart from the LucasArts 'classics', I also played a few titles from Sierra ("Police Quest", "Space Quest", "Kings Quest", "Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards"), and the first two "Broken Sword" titles from Revolution Software.

I also played Adventure Soft's "Simon The Sorcerer" & the three (Coktel Vision) "Gobliins" titles. "Gobliins 4" is supposed to be out later this year.

Happy times.

If anybody needs to get the older LucasArts SCUMM(tm) titles working in a Microsoft Windows environment, may I suggest you head over to SCUMMVM.org?
