I would guess the vast majority are bought on the Cycle to Work scheme, so the taxpayer is footing over half the cost.
Don't be so bitter and uninformed. The saving going through cycle to work these days is probably only 10% for basic rate tax payers.
Nope, you won't see many basic rate taxpayers on a Brompton, and a higher rate taxpayer will save around 40-45% (aka half).
Even a the higher rate of 40%, that's still not "over half the cost" ;)
Yeah, let them use expensive cars and clog our lungs instead

when you think a Brompton is about £600 minimum to buy these days

£600, you are having a laugh. A standard 3 speed Brompton is £890 these days, and stick all the options on, and you can exceed £2,000.

However I would guess the vast majority are bought on the Cycle to Work scheme, so the taxpayer is footing over half the cost.

Bitter. Nope, I love my Brompton.

Uninformed. Nope, you won't see many basic rate taxpayers on a Brompton, and a higher rate taxpayer will save around 40-45% (aka half).

What I find amusing is the taxpayer subsidising expensive bikes for well paid people.

I was guessing there... You could well be correct.

I bought my Brompton for £550 some nine years ago or so. I hadn't used it much the last few years, but recently got it serviced for this summer, which cost me £70... I did have a look at the prices in Evans Cycles, and saw the cheapest was about £890... Blimey, didn't realise the price had gone up so much
