Probably something to do with this: Scotland has a big problem with heart disease. Also I don't know anywhere else in the world where they deep-fry pizzas, mars bars and this!

But lard isn't widely used up here - despite what you may have read in The Sun. We always fry our mars bars in extra virgin olive oil.
