I am looking for a mono laser printer that connects to Wi-Fi and is cheap to run in the long term, so it must have automatic duplex to save paper and cheap cartridges must be available. This one seems to tick the boxes.

The HL2270DW is £124.80 delivered from Viking with 9.45% Topcashbach available, and Viking throw in a gift bag of rock sweets although that's hardly a deal clincher. :-) It includes a standard capacity toner cartridge.

From a quick check on Ebay, replica cartridges are £12 each for this one and drums about £15.

If anyone can suggest a better deal, please post information and links before I order this one.

Do you really need WiFi ? You can get practically the same model which just requires a wired network connection for significantly less, the HL-2250DN - currently £71.99 from eBuyer here.

We do quite a bit of printing from our laptops and it's a hassle to have to plug into the printer each time while the pages print, so we do want Wi-Fi. The £50+ price difference is steep however!

No, you don't have to plug the laptops into the printer. Just plug the HL-2250DN into one of the LAN ports on your WiFi router and *all* network devices can print to it, wired and WiFi.

Are you sure? http://www.trustedreviews.com/brother-hl-2250dn_Printer_review#SgHs8OD6fuECiPM2.99 states "At the back are sockets for USB and 10/100 Ethernet, but you will have to use a third-party print server, if you need a wireless connection."

What the reviewer means is if you want to connect the printer to your network by WiFi you'll need an adapter. If you wire the printer into your router, then you don't need a WiFi connection *to the printer*. Your laptops/tablets/phones can continue to connect to your router by WiFi, and will be able to access the printer as it will be part of the same network. I've used an HL-2250DN like this and now use a HL-415CDN in the same way.

Printers do not need to be "Wi-Fi" to be able to connect to laptops, as long as they - instead - have a physical LAN connection. IF this printer can establish a standard TCP/IP-based network connection (I would be surprised if it couldn't!!) - via its ethernet port - to a router, then any computer also on that router will be able to connect to it.

I think what TrustedReviews are trying to say is that, if you want to use that particular printer via wireless - i.e. it cannot be connected to a router via a cable due to distance to the router or something - a third-party print server is required.

I ordered the HL-2250DN from Ebuyer for £71.99 just in time, as it's now gone up to £127.47! Thanks for your advice.
