An easy-to-use, hand-held labeling machine for the office or home, that produces a wide variety of professional quality labels made to last. It's the P-touch 1000 electronic labeling system from Brother. Organizing your world has never been easier. Whether you'd like to organize your workplace or simply sort things out around the home, it shouldn't be complicated. With the P-touch 1000 you just key in the word or number, choose the style, and then print.

£2.50 from the sale of this product will go to Cancer Research UK to help their life-saving research into breast cancer.
The downside is that it requires six AAA batteries
To be fair, it's Brother that pays the £2.50 to Cancer UK I think, as it's on their website.
However this is the best price I think :) Just need to buy rechargeable batteries ;-)
well it's still for charity, whoever pays. Its a god idea though. Rechargeable's aren't that expensive either that or the pound shop... hehe
How much are the tape refills and where is the best source?
Got one from Lidls a few months back for about £19.99 I think it was, (sorry cant remember exact price, but must have been well cheap as I've got one at work already) not a bad little printer, but it annoyingly leaves a hell of a long space before & after the text, so it is a bit wasteful of tape :( Also have got a Dymo at work and the text sizes are better on the Dymo :( also easier to use and not quite as much wasted tape (still some though)...
The brother printer at Lidl was at £9.99, same as above but not pink.
................. but it annoyingly leaves a hell of a long space before & after the text, so it is a bit wasteful of tape ...

Agreed, but the tape length can be adjusted accoring to the instructions. Problem is that when set on automatic the spaces before and after are too long as you say, and that is the easiest mode to use.

Can anyone help with sourcing cheap refills please?
I think these use TZ tapes, I haven't seen any cheap ones really, but Ebay usually have some on, I use a similar machine for my work, and it wastes tape, but work pays for the tapes so it don't matter!!!

Ah thanks for that I was having a senior moment  Thought it was either 9.99 or 19.99 but couldnt remember, should have realised that it was a tenner as I'm a tight so & so... ;-)

Yes it is the TZ tapes, not tried to source any yet, so will see if anyone here recommends a cheap supplier...

I tried to change leader length, but I think that the auto setting is the shortest one it does :-(

Not a bad machine, but the Dymo still gets my vote...
