Got a call from BT saying that for £5/month one could sign up for a international freedom call package which includes calls to about 80 countries, including calls to India landline. Anytime calls lasting upto 60 minutes; we could disconnect and dial again at the end of 60 minutes. I tried accessing their website about the details of this plan but that specific page is down. Surely that is a good saving if it is true.

"I tried accessing their website about the details of this plan but that specific page is down"

Found this but it only has 39 countries, India not being one of them...perhaps they've forgotten to update the page...

Thanks for this though, currently paying £5 through Orange for t'Internet and calls to US, if I can find another Internet provider for free then this'll let me finish my Orange contract

This is true, I work for BT and sell this nearly every day.

For £5 per month you can call to certain countries for 0p for up to 1 hour

I will post the countries you can call when i get to work later, I know off the top of my head though that america mobile calls are included in the deal! cant think if India is thought ;-)

The good thing about this deal is that you don't have use those 'prefix' numbers to make a cheap /cheaper rate international call .....and you know that your international phone calls bill will be 5 pounds +6pence setup charge per call....(Atleast thats how i read it)...Avoiding the use of "prefix " or subcarriers for me, would be worth 5 pounds a month.

Good deal, so much less hassle than using cards from newagents etc.

There is a 6p call setup fee though, unless you have inclusive minutes.
Signing up for it now.
Hot.

"Monthly charge of £5 (£15 per quarter) applies. Includes calls of up to an hour to landlines in 36 International destinations. 6p set-up fee applies to chargeable calls. Minimum 1 month term. Available to residential customers on a BT Calling Plan only. Excessive/Fair Use Policy applies, maximum of 600 minutes a month. Terms and conditions apply. "

Just signed up and service is available immediately.
The 6p call setup fee is just applied to chargeable calls, so I'm calling the USA which is free there is NO 6p call setup, if I call India which is chargeable I also pay 6p setup fee.
USA mobile calls are also free, but France and Ireland mobiles are 30ppm + 6p call setup.

I've just signed my mum up to Talk Talk and her package includes free calls to 36 International numbers (not that she'll ever use them). £16 a month including line rental and free broadband (and I know their BB reputation is not great but it'll be good enough for my mum).

jst about the 6p set up fee, I did some search throught BT website and found:
"6p call set up fee applies except for International Freedom inclusive calls."

I think 6pence per call setup fees applies depending on the Country you are calling. If i make a call the USA No Call Setup Charges Apply,But if i call India then 6 pence per Call Setup Charges Apply. That's how i read the "Interenational Freedom Inclusive Calls" plan being offered. Maybe i have misread it?.....

Like most things with BT, they're not always very clear on what they mean. I specifically asked them about this 6p setup fee. If you call USA it is totally free for 1 hour, no setup fee. If you call India there is the cost of the call plus 6p setup fee.

With TalkTalk BB you have a one-off connection fee of £29.99 and you are tied into an 18 month contract, with this BT call deal you can do it just for 1 month if you don't like it.

Nearly went with TalkTalk myself until looking further into their charges and their customer service is even worse then BTs.

A word of WARNING in case your confused over the small print..... If you call a Country which is NOT one of the 36(39?)listed Countries then Call Charges Per Minute Apply...Although "Discounted" per minute charges still apply.

Most of my friends, after recent trip to Goa & Mumbai, seem to use mobiles and not land lines (due to setup costs and on going costs). So no good for me :-(

I use one of those 2p a minute services.

still talking about the setup fee, there's a price table on the website use this link, you Scroll Down to the country you want to call, and it will show you how much you need to pay for, (India 6p--so I think you need pay 6p setup fee, France 0p--you don't need to pay for call france, Germany 0p, Hongkong 0p.......)

The original deal post is Misleading....It implies that calls to India are at 0pence Per Minute ....whereas the best i can discern is that calls to India will be chargeable calls ie, 6Pence to setup the call and then xPence Per Minute Per call made. (xPence Per Minute is as far as i can tell is 27Pence "Discounted from the normal 1.10Per Minute) . Its of no concern to me other than that people could run up a huge phone bill not reading the small print. The deal Headline is Misleading........Maybe i've still misread the deal?......
