Am I missing something but this only calls, texts or emails you if an intruder is detected. So no external sounding alarm? Surely it would hardly be a deterent to burglars then?
#6
I believe the external siren is an additionl item, the whole point of this one is it is a monitored alarm with a much cheaper to run monitoring service than any other alarm provider I know of.
#7
For what it's worth, I have a professionally installed alarm, and they don't come with external sounding boxes either (but they do make a hell of a racket indoors when they go off).

Thanks jase71 :) for posting today's advent calender deal.

I have one, I would say plus points are no wiring so easy to install and have had no false alarms with it

Minus points there is a £5 a month subscription charge, it calls or texts you so if you are 200 miles away there is little you can do other than worry

I paid less for mine with a BT employee discount though but generally am happy with it.

And there's no point having an external alarm sounder it just annoys the neighbours who generally ignore it anyway.

I have one, bought it a couple of years ago.

It s a good simple system with the ability to add more sensors. The siren comes from the main box and is very loud. You can get a fake siren box to put outside.

The system texts or rings your contacts when one of the sensors is set off or there is a power failure and then when the power comes back on or if one of the battery's is low.

The door sensor can chime when the door is opened even though the alarm is not set.

I have a fire alarm connected to it and so it will ring and text if the alarm is activated.

Fully agree that it seems strange to let me know the house is burning down or that someone has broken in when I'm away but at least I can contact a neighbour without having an outside alarm going off.

Get replacement batteries via ebay as supermarkets can be £5 a battery.

Hope this helps.

Also do you have to subscribe as £60 a year seems alot. Are there any alternatives.?.

Plus £9.99 delivery..dont forget you can get 4% back through quidco as well for BT branded products, if you are looking for a monitored alarm you will not find one cheaper per month than the bt offering the other big names in monitored alarms charge around £1 a day for their service but the initial alarm and install will come into the hundreds.

These advent offers are not always as good as they make out, I know from previous ones they are quoting a price that they sold it at ages ago and in reality are only saving you £5 this time around. (btw, I'm not talking of this specific offer, just generally)

By all means, I do look at them, but still price-check as BT ain't exactly the most generous of retailers
