Don't forget Quidco!

how does this hook up to e-mail then? will it work as an alarm or do you have to subscribe to the monitoring service?
#7
What's the beef with the Alarm though (ie lack off ?)

All well and good getting a text when you are in Spain saying you house is been robbed but wouldn't the Alarm be a more effective deterent ?

...or am I missing something here ?
#8
no bell box with it either so wil only make a siren from inside the house.
#9
Mikey - I know what you mean....I would have thought a Bell box is a must for a home alarm.

Looks as though this is only worth while if you are subscribing to the BT service.
#10
It has no bell box, read the mse thread before asking questions.
#11
You can get an external bellbox if you want one, I just bought one. Also wireless and £50. However even without it makes so much noise you would not stay in the house with it sounding and you can text and email a load of contacts it has been set off.

And remember people walk by bell boxes that are sounding and the police wont attend in many countys now. Its best to let as many family and Friends know you might have a problem at home.

It also has camera support (film the burgler) if you scrap bt and use the company they use instead (cant remember name its in MSE thread).

You get it set up so when your in Spain your mum/neighbour etc pops round.

Just Installed Two Of These. Bought From BTShop The Deluxe Version With The Additional PIR & Keyfob For £89 ( £99 - 10% Discount Code-Quidco CashBack).
This Deal From Kudos1uk Plus The PCWorld Is Better.Excellent Find Kudos1uk!!!
Good Points...
(i)Bt Give 3Months Free On 12 Month Contract
(ii)Definitely Gives You Peace Of Mind
(iii)Can Check All Activations Online, Including Changing People You Want To Alert, Very Useful When Going On Holiday.
(iv)Can't Be Beaten For The Functions At This Price. I Checked.

Bad Points
(i)If The Burglar Manages To Rip The Panel Off The Wall And Disconnect The Line The Monitoring Is Ineffective.Even Worse If They Then Break The Siren.
(ii)The Instructions I Had On Installation Were Useless. They Forget To Mention A Screw That Needs To Be Removed From The Front Before You Remove The Back Panel.
(iii)Bt Monitoring Dials A 0870 Number When Alarm Activated.

However There Are Ways Of Getting Over These. This Panel Is Based On The Powermax Panel.

I Used Install Alarms...This Is The One I've Currently Got...The Reason's Being Functions, Ease Of Use & Installation And PRICE!!!

kudos1uk, where did you get the bell box from? i presume that with one of those it wouldn't matter if the burglar smashes the box?
#15
I think the most important feature of an alarm is a visible deterrent - i.e a bell box on the front of your house.

This may put a burglar off 'finishing' the job after he's broken in, but you'd still have the major hassle and upset of a break-in.

From BT's site - "BT Home Monitor VP1000 comes with first 3 months monitoring included in the price. After this time, monitoring is charged at a monthly fee of £5.00."

So it'll end up costing you £45 for the first year and £60 thereafter.

So if you assume you'll be using it for 3 years - it'll cost about £130 (85+45) for the first year and £60 each year. So £250 for 3 years. AND on top of that you've got the 0870 calls too.

I'm not saying it's not a bargain - just pointing out the financial commitment resulting from the alarm.

Unless you change the numbers in the unit to your mobile number and the backup to a trusted person then its free.

Depends if you want monitored cover or "on the cheep free cover".

Looks like the free delivery has ended, but still a great price :)

Almost bought one last summer, then almost bought when when listed on BT site discounted...almost tempted now....just can't decide

Does this definitely work? Just the info on MSE suggests that you either simply get a call with nothing or effectively a modem type signal tone
