I have a pair of BT dect phones with answermachine. One of the phones isn't working. Can anyone tell me whether I can just buy another BT dect phone to replace the faulty one or whether I need to get the exact matching model? Any help or thoughts appreciated

You can use ANY DECT phone to connect to any DECT base. We have some new Panasonic quad pack with colour lcd screens, we've added our old ones which are NTL branded (VS2000) onto the collection now we have 6!!!!

The only thing is we can't use the base phone, that's a slightly different model number for some reason.

Make sure you knwo the PIN for your base to pair them up. Let me know how you get on

Every BT phone I have ever had has been useless, falling apart in no time at all. Would never buy a BT branded product ever again.

These are great phones. I paid £34 for the twin set a few months ago so this is a good deal

That's how it's supposed to be, the reality though can be somewhat different :-) It seems some manufacturers are sloppy when implementing the DECT "standard". We had a Western Digital DECT base station/answer phone and a Binatone twin set. We never could get the Binatones to work properly with the WD base station - which in its self was a complete PITA to use - and had to use the Binatones on a seperate extension socket. When the Binatone base station broke we then bought a Panasonic triple set/answerphone. A much nicer system to use and no compatibilty hassles.

Dect has nothing to do with being able to connect other handsets. What you need to look for is GAP compatiable, and all those can be connected.

Can someone tell me what the quality is like? The reviews on Amazon are a little misleading. 2 for rubbish and one for great!

I have a quad BT 2500 and they are the worst phones I have ever had the mispleasure of using... am on the look out for a set of Panasonics at Which? seem to rate them very highly.

Sorry should have mentioned that my NTl ones now work funny, they dont display caller id like they used to with thte original base. Also don't know if it's an internal/external call.

Yep agree DECT standard or whatever it is is isn't being used properly. Hey at least there isn't 2 conflicting standarrds at least (blu-ray cough hddvd cough)
