So did I read this correctly - that this will cost £1.75 / month to use this going forwards ? Which is much cheaper than having two lines (although I assume you cant use both inbound phone numbers at the same time!)

Ive just signed up for Total Broadband for the IP phone and no they provide, so perhaps after a year, this may be better and cheaper option.

Answered my own question with a bit of googling - here for all you equally curious people;

What Does It Do?

You can use the BT TwinTalk to provide a business extension on your home phone line, or a connection for your fax with its own telephone number. With TwinTalk
your children can have their own extension in their room with their own phone number; you don't need to be your kid's receptionist. For the deaf or hard of hearing TwinTalk allows the connection of a Text phone and ordinary phone on the same line. The TwinTalk works in conjunction with the BT CallSign service and three months free subscription to this service comes with every TwinTalk pack.

The BT CallSign service lets you have two numbers on your telephone line and with TwinTalk you can decide which of your phones, or faxes, will ring when each
number is called.

What It Does Not Do?

The BT TwinTalk gives you two number on one line but not two lines, so you will not be able to make or receive two phone calls at the same time - or use the Internet while also using the phone (unless you have ADSL and an ADSL Filter).

Installing?

Installing the TwinTalk is very easy. You get two units which you plug into the wall sockets. There is a switch on each unit with two positions. Switch one of these one way for that extension to have your original number and the other switch the other way, which gives that extension the new number. If you only have one telephone socket you can still use TwinTalk by using a socket double adapter.

What About Security?

The BT Twin Talk has something called the TwinTalk GuardCall. This is a simple level device that will keep calls private and fax data secure. The GuardCall feature of TwinTalk works in a very clever way by sensing the voltage on the telephone line. There is about 50V on the line when it is idle which the GuardCall circuitry senses. In this condition it will then connect your phone through TwinTalk to the line. Now the line is in use there will be less than 15V on it. When someone picks up another handset connected through a TwinTalk, the GuardCall in that TwinTalk senses that there is only 15V or less on the line and will not connect that phone. This means you cannot listen into or speak over the call in progress.

Internet?

The TwinTalk and it's GuardCall feature work perfectly with Internet connections (even Broadband). And the TwinTalk's GuardCall feature has another useful Internet use. Imagine you have connected to The Internet through a dial up modem. You might be browsing or worse downloading a large file and someone else in the house picks up another extension - your download is lost. However, TwinTalk's GuardCall makes this impossible. Likewise fax data is secured.

T Call Sign?

For the TwinTalk to work you need to subscribe to BT's CallSign Service. You get this free for three months with the TwinTalk - after that you have to pay £1.75 a month for the service.

Anything Else?

REN is 0 so it will not affect anything else you have connected.

Saving Money?

If you were to have a new second residential line it would cost £74.99 to install and £9.99 per month to rent. With the TwinTalk you pay £32.99 and £1.75 a month for CallSign (first 3 month's free). The saving in the first year alone with TwinTalk compared to a dedicated second residential line is over £151 including VAT. Compared to a dedicated business line the saving is even more considerable at over £224 ex VAT.

Dont forget delivey - which brings the total price to £18.73 - which is still cheaper than most other sites

"Delivery charge is normally £5.99 "
