if you get broadband from bt just phone em up and this is free. maybe Im missing something here-dont bt only supply bt vision to bt customers in which case there is no need to pay for this?

or does this pack get you bt vision even if you have another provider?

Yep I have BT broadband and I rang them and they sent me a free BT vision box and the new black BT homeHub for free.
You need the home hub to get BT vision to work though for recording ect...

I have BT vision and Sky+

Bt vision is not a patch on Sky+ but as a freeview recorder for free (with BT broadband which you need) it does the job so it sits in the bedroom happly recording mainly the omnibus' of soaps

Pointless deal. You get the BT Vision box free from BT, however you must be a BT Broadband customer and have a broadband line speed of at least 2Mb.

I was under the impression that BT weren't giving BT Vision away for free any longer and you have to sign up to monthly subscriptions with them?

How recently did you receive a free BT Vision Box from them?
#9
Do you need a bt broadband for this? Doesn't say anything about it.

last tuesday! I never phoned them-they phoned me(several times)

If they give you the ethernet powerline adapters like I got in my pack this has to be well worth £10 just for those.

BT Vision box is still free, monthly subscriptions are for the premium channels. You must have BT Broadband though.

Not on a Pay As You Go basis - it's still £30 for the box and £30 for installation (actually £29.36 + £29.36 because of the VAT malarky?).

You don't need the BT home hub, the vision box will work with any router.
Good bit of kit, EPG is easy to use, not as good as SKY+, but better than SONY EPGs.

agreed the powerline ethernet adaptors go for 35 quid on ebay, i know i was after a pair for a while.

The most unreliable piece of junk I have ever owned - it cost me nothing when I got mine and I still consider it a waste of money!!

Chose to pay for a topfield, and now the Humax HDR - 1000% more reliable and user-friendly.

According to BT you need their router - they were going to make it 'free' but withdrew that promise shortly after they made it. If you stop using BT it won't work (not that it 'worked' when connected to BT).

I can confirm that you don't have to use the home hub for the V box to work. I've had two different routers connected to it and it has worked fine.

As a PVR it works well, the EPG loads quickly as it's downloaded through the broadband connection and not the TV signal like most PVRs. Word of warning though, you need to have at least a 2 Meg (more like 2.5 tbh) broadband connection for the on demand content to work.

PLEASE NOTE :-
They restart you contract when you take vision box as I found out and had to wait 5 months to get out of it.
They didn't say this when I started it and I paid £90 for my box when it came out.
I've got 2 faulty boxes and 1 working one. It was pants when it came out but has got better.
Now with O2 and lifes roses again.

the problem i have with this is they dont ( officially ) do multiroom , so bt wont send out a 2nd box to existing customers ! i have checked ! also you cant have bt vision if you dont have bt broadband so they wont send it out to an address that doesnt have bt broadband ! SO if you do have bt broadband , then go and order it direct from bt , this offer is pointless !

From the John Lewis Site:
BT Vision is the new digital TV service exclusively for BT Total Broadband customers. BT Vision offers a completely new way of receiving your on-screen entertainment. Enjoy over 70 digital TV and Radio channels and choose from a huge library of on-demand entertainment.
You'll also get a free V-box™, BT's digital TV recorder, so you can pause and rewind live TV, and record up to 80 hours of your favourite shows -directly into the 160GB hard drive. The BT Vision V-box also has a 14-day Electronic Programme Guide (EPG), as well as an on-screen guide to allow selection of downloadable content. This EPG is searchable, to help you find TV shows and films by name or by actor.
To receive BT Vision, you’ll need to have BT Total Broadband and live in a Freeview area. Don't worry if you don't already have it as you can sign up when you complete your BT Vision connection; packages start from £8.95 a month for the first 6 months. To check whether you can get BT Vision, text VISION with your home telephone number and postcode to 64364; for example: “VISION 01234567890 AA12AA” (When texting, please use capitals, and remember you must leave a gap between your phone number and postcode)
Connection to BT Vision is included in the price of this package and there’s no additional compulsory subscription fee to pay.
You get access to Freeview Digital TV channels as standard and can also choose from an enormous range of on-demand entertainment, including sports, films, music and kids shows. All is available whenever you like, at the touch of a button, either on a pay-per-view basis or via BT's viewing packs, which run on a month-by-month basis with no long-term tie-in.Please note:John Lewis will supply software and instructions. BT will supply the Vision connection box after your application is complete. This offer is only open to residential users.

Youll see from the image that this is the connection pack
http://direct.tesco.com/pi/Enlarge/7/AW07202-7397TPS258829.jpg

But I see its now sold out (although it was sold out on Sunday and I ordered it Monday when it mysteriously came back in stock).

Be warned that the following gotcha is really open to interpretation. I turn off my elecy when I go away on holiday (as I dont want house fires or to run up unnecessary bills). By the time I had agreed to place the order, he asked me to rub off the scratch card and then agreed a delivery date and then quoted the following Ts&Cs!
I suspect that he f**ked up and should have read Ts&Cs out before he asked me to scratch the card.

Connection and V-box (provided V-box is connected within 28 days of delivery and kept connected for 12 months; otherwise £194.76) are included as part of this offer.

Just a warning for all those potential users.
