Nice thx, thinking of doing this and Prague. Off to Berlin this weekend, so could be overdoing it if I go again for Christmas.

If you go to Budapest after Prague then you may be disappointed? Prague is a much better city for a break IMO, more to see and do, much cheaper for eating and drinking also.

This is so tempting!

Word of warning, don't fly Ryanair to Budapest - near to departure time, they call all passengers and place you in their cattle shed with no facilities on the runway, so they can speed you onto the plane as soon as possible. Here's a photo from someone's elses tweet.. http://twitpic.com/e4v1wv

Anyone going to Budapest ( my hometown ) in december prepare yourself: It can be pretty cold!
So make sure you drink plenty of palinka ( if you can get your hand on some home made with honey aka mezes palinka, it's the best! ) when you are there and eat in fozelekbar's the local cousine, like : langos, porkolt and the sweets/cakes are amazing too.

Anybody who has flown Ryanair before will be accustomed to this. It's well worth dealing with if you're trying to keep costs down for a quick weekend trip or whatever. It's not fun, but international travel has never been more 'accessible'.

Prague better...not when I went,Budapest fantastic city with loads of history, open top bus a must but in winter!! Only for the brave or one topped up with palinka lol.
Or warm yourself in the ruined bars! Though 2 days, you gonna be busy!!
Wanna go back soon.

It's a shame these deals are mid week (Tues-Thurs) in this case. It would be good to see some good value weekend deals for those of us who have to work Mon-Fri.

Apart from the Castle and Royal Buda Palace, I wasn't fussed on the landmarks - seemed much more grim Soviet era buildings there than in Prague, much prefer the old bits of Prague around the castle, around the Astronomical Clock and Charles Bridge. The beers were about 3x the price of Prague when I went about 10 years ago (Prague has since gone some way to catch up). I've been to Prague 4 times since, never had an inkling to go back to Budapest.

Berlin around Christmas is hard to beat, and Dresden is pretty good for a cheap day-trip from Prague (2 hours on the train, for £12 return when we went last December).
