I've been using one of these for probably two years now, very very reliable.

This might be a better option - http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/western-digital-elements-1tb-usb2-0-for-45-89-amazon/869242

That one is cheaper (inc P&P) and it's been reviewed quite a bit more. Apparently it's not noisy like this one is during read/write (although mine has yet to arrive yet so I can't say from personal experience).

In general, Buffalo are better than WD imho. I haven't got first hand experience of these two models though.

same for me
though recently it has disappeared from my computer(i have 4 externals)
i will reserve judgement till i do the new PC build as this PC has a graphics chipset problem and it maybe causing issues

Up until recently, i would have said go with Buffalo, but now, i'd say stay well clear..
I bought the Buffalo Linkstation (practically same unit except has ethernet).
I moved data onto it, next day, 'Error 22' drive unmountable. The unit can see the drive, which is a 'SEAGATE'! of all the drives to use, they use a rubbish Seagate!
So now i have a unit which can be replaced under warranty but i lose my data..... Although i am happy to void my warranty, they units are created so you cant get into them unless u cut through the plastic.. as there are no screws....
Utter rubbish, go with WD.... even there own customer support were as helpful as a chocolate fireguard..
