Description

Buffalo's High Speed USB flash drives are the clear choice for easily accessing all of your data and multimedia files."

OK, after my 4GB Play.com branded flash drive literally fell apart in my hands after one day I got on the phone to them and they found this alternative at the same price.

It is listed as Type C on Buffalo's site

http://www.buffalo-technology.com/comparison-charts/flash-memory/flash-usb-drives/

Not sure how it compares to the other 4GB drives for R/W speed, but Buffalo are a pretty good make IMO.

Hehe, I was tempted to post this myself last night! My dad is after a USB flash memory stick, and after searching around PC World / Maplin / Staples / Argos / SVP, I ended up at Play.com. I haven't ordered yet, but most of the opposition are charging this sort of price for a 1GB. Amazon's shops have them at similar prices but no free postage so far as I know :)

Toasty warmth added, as there may be other deals that I don't know of, but this seems like a good deal to me.

bufallo are excellent flash drives.. used them since the 512mb ones
#3
Voted hot! I had a Buffalo drive few years back - and it never let me down
#4
is it compatible with vista? I've had several flash drives that have failed to work with my stupid vista laptop.

You can get 8gb samsung drives for around £16 delivered on ebay. From HK though.

This is still a very goo price...

I had a buffalo 512mb drive for a while now, great drives, survived a few drops too.
#7
The Buffalo website shows this as compatible with Vista but then says (beta version)

Is this good:roll:

Bought mine from Amazon in Oct 2006 for £47.00!. In daily use and never had a problem. Seems very fast - certainly faster than my previous Integral 512mb.
#17
you can get play.com(byetester) one for the same price

No you can't:

Temporarily out of stock. This item will be dispatched as soon as it arrives.

That's where this thread started. The Buffalo ones appear to be better built too :)

I've been using one of these for a few months now with no problems. In fact, I like it so much that I've just bought a second one.

I had a 250GB Buffalo external hard drive which I took backpacking with me in SE Asia, after 10 months of being thrown about in my rucksack on the back of buses, boats, taxis and tuk tuks and then a year in the UK being my main media drive it is still going strong to this day. Hopefully a testament to Buffalo's build quality
#24
Thanks OP needed this:thumbsup:
#25
there's an 8gb version too

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3344750/Buffalo-RUF-C8G-U2-8Gb-USB-Flash-Portable-Drive/Product.html

dunno if it's a good price though. Just saw it when I was browsing.

Vista Readyboost?

If you think you need Readyboost, you would be better off investing the money in more RAM, as it is only really noticeable on a slower machine with less than 1GB of RAM.

Readyboost is just a quick and dirty fix for Vista's larger resource requirements and for most users a complete waste of time and money. It is just indicative of the fact that your computer is not up to scratch, but since RAM prices more or less mirror those of USB pen drives, you may as well buy the real thing.

I saw this on Sunday and though 'hmm, I must get one of those...', so ordered yesterday at 16.52. I also thought 'I wonder if this is on HUKD already....'. Low and behold I come here today to have my daily gander and find that not only was it posted, but it now seems to be out of stock! Just checked my account and it seems to be 'processing'. :? I've got a horrible feeling that I may not receive it at all.

The first post was just under 3 hours after I'd actually bought it so I may be lucky, and it was showing as 'in stock', but the dvd I ordered along with it was dispatched this morning. Shall keep my fingers crossed. I'm sure this deal will come up again, but I'm off on my travels around the world next week, so if I miss out now, I'll have to go without.

Spooky Edit: I was just about to submit this post when an email notification, timed at 15.02, came through to say the order has been posted.
#34
my order is being packed, i only ordered just before lunch :-D
#35
With some tinkering around (dont ask) I've found out it will be relisted at £14.99 (delivered) once it comes back into stock.
This is presumably because of it's popularity, generated by this thread.
