Exellent find amibees, hot.

have some heat - unlikely to find a bare 2.5" 80gb drive at this price!
anybody know what drive is inside it (no obvious "80gb" replies please!).
#3
This one is better value for money. Same make 320GB £80

or this one if you want to go for proven quality (Western Digital 320 GB £100)

Used my £2.50 off matchstick voucher too. :) so got mine for £27.49

This will do me nicely as a hard drive to use as backup when fitting my PS3 with a larger hard drive.

Thanks, very hot !.
#9
even better if you use your £2.50 voucher.

Well this one is much better value for money!

Just £13 more but 40gb greater!

Can these be used directly with cameras? (to offload photos either directly onto them whilst shooting, or transferring files after you've filled a card?).

No, it requires a fair amount of power (2.5 watts - 500 mA at 5 volts) from the USB lead - it's a 2.5" laptop hard drive inside, spinning at 5400rpm.
#13
Any one know if this can be used for a lap top ?

It's an external USB hard drive. It can be used with a laptop (as long as it has USB ports).

Just what I need for my photo collection.
Excellent find amibees and many many thanks.

Voted hot and repped. !

Nice deal, voted hot.

I bought a 160gb WD a while back for about double the price so about the right £/GB.

EDIT - Just remember Tony, these things fail every so often, I would put your photo collection on here as a backup but keep several other copies on other devices to be sure.

I would have to disagree with you on Western Digital being 'proven quality'...their drives along with Maxtor are abysmal!
#18
is it usb 1.1 compatible? My computer is very old.

I understand your argument, it's just better value per GB. Believe me HDD can never be too large IMO. I constantly run out of space.

Would these things work with Linux?

I'm planning on getting something like an EEE or a Pandora when they come out, if they work with those this could be just the ticket.
#22
For £30 this is a great deal.. voted HOT!!

Would I be able to plug this into the USB port of my DVD player. Am I right in thinking I'd have to format it in a certain way?

it should work just like plugging in a USB. i don't see why the dvd player wont recognize it as a portable usb.

you just gave me more of a reason to buy it lol

fat or fat32

it may arrive in NTFS format.

your 1.1 usb port may not provide enought power for this hdrive. but they normally bundle a dual cable to use the power of two 1.1 ports or even a mains adapter.

Agreed Benji and good advice. I already have the photo's and music backed up on another external but this one is ideal to stick in your pocket when visiting so you can bore the pants of relatives, lol ! :w00t:

I'm tempted for exactly the same reason, already got all my photos backed up, but this would be some much easier to lug around. Iassume you're boring the pants off your relatives with the extensive photo collection, and not your choice of music.:whistling:

Hot for me

do i do it or do i wait for bigger ones to fall in price! choices choices... hell of a price tho!

READ THIS IF YOU'VE ORDERED !!

Just realised this product carries a free 1 month trial to Amazon Prime so you can get free next day delivery !!
I had already ordered but went back, signed up for Amazon prime and it automatically changed the delivery date to next day !!

edit: You may have to manually change your delivery to First Class (free for Amazon Prime) It appears to update the availability of Amazon Prime but not the actual selection.
So once you sign up for Amazon Prime:
Go to my account
Click on recent orders
Find order
Click on change delivery options
Change to First Class , free Amazon Prime.

No Brainer really, just don't forget to cancel Amazon Prime within the month otherwise you'll get automatically charged.

Makes the deal even more desirable !!

Great deal, voted hot. I bought the Pink WD 250GB hard drive 2 weeks back for exactly double the price, so a great deal for people who prefer to spend less.

is it usb 1.1 compatible? My computer is very old.

Taken from the technical details on the site
USB Standards: USB Specification Rev. 2.0 (Supports 1.1)
Storage Capacity: 40, 80 GB
Transmission Speed: Max. 480 Mbps
Power Consumption: Max. 2.5 W
Power Supply: DC 5V
Dimensions: 127 x 82.80 x 21.08 mm
Weight 208.39 g
Operating 5 - 35°C
Environment 20-80% Humidity (non-condensing)

It will work fine as long as you power it from the mains and not the USB port.

Don't think it can be powered from mains can it?

I think it'll work on most usb ports, maybe some old ones won't work though.

Bought one, 27.49 delivered next day using the Amazon Prime trial and 2.50 voucher.

Bargain!

Heat added
