The 500 GB version has some very unhappy owners

As an alternative you might want to consider the 750 gb version which is only £64.99 at ebuyer, (free delivery).

WOW at the negtivity! 6 reviews and 3 of them 1 star - possibly coz they couldn't rate is less
#5
I have had a 400gb version of this for a couple of years and have never had any problems.
#6
Its usually the case with all the popular drives.
There's always going to be some who unfortunately have a catastrophic loss of data due to drive failure and and rate it very low (who wouldn't in those circumstances!).
That doesn't necessarily mean its any worse than any other product out there, just that you hear more about the bad ones because its so popular.
The question is does this drive have a higher failure rate than others? (% failed in the first year for example)
#7
if 50% of the reviews say so then it sounds like trouble to someone who hasn't had it before.

I've heard bad reviews about WD too but nowhere this close.

Does this have an eSATA connection?
#9

Sort of

the 2 slim black ones are 500gig hd's
the other 3 are nas's (like a mini pc with a hd for network access)

btw, I noticed yesterday that these use Samsung Spinpoint F1 drives (HD103UJ) , very quiet and fast!
