First deal post so please be gentle :)

Was just in my local Comet store and saw this 500 gig NAS drive reduced from £99.99 to £62.99. There was only one left and there was a sticker on the shelf saying that it had been reduced as the item has been discontinued.
The drive can be used with Twonky media server and stream media to the XBOX360 and PS3 very well indeed as well as being natively DLNA compliant, however this is a little flakey.
I paid more than this for the 320gig one I have.
Maybe this can help somebody.

The new ones look nice fair play. Doesn't matter to me though as mine are stored behind my TV :)

Hmmm. This looks pretty good, I might have to swing past my local comet and see if they have one.

Voted hot

I do exactly this, with no problems at all.

The Linkstation Live - like every NAS I've tried - has its problems. It's slow when you're transferring large amounts of stuff. If you've got a large music library, set aside a day to get it on there. But it's pretty painless once you're up and running - and the USB ports are handy for backups to a USB drive and as a print server.

Just don't use the built in UPnP media server - it makes the disk churn CONSTANTLY.

I'm tempted to pick one up at this price and have a go at running Twonky on it.

just out of intrest which comet store did you pick this up from?
#12
Swansea mate
#13
The guy I spoke to mentioned this was a head office price by the way.
#14
Cheers mate at least i know not to take a detour off the motorway for a visit now! i travel all over the country in work and will quite often pay visit's to stores too see if i can find a deal!!
#15
You were also lucky to find one as i have looked in a few comets in the south west, (bristol area and devon area and not found any yet!)
(off to west midlands tomorrow will continue the search!!) I allready got one but love it so much want to get another one if i can especially if they are going that cheap!!
#16
Guessed I was lucky mate, I agree though for this price they are a steal
#17
can u upgrade the hard-drive on this to 1 TB or more?
#19
Excellent deal, I have a 320gb LS there really good. Got mine hooked up to a 500gb elements and a 320gb esata external drive making for just over a terrabyte of storage all in.

The internal hard drives can be upgraded (in the LS this is) but it will void the warranty and getting it to recognize the bigger drive is a bit tricky.

Guy at my local store just told me none in the whole of Devon, they were shipped back to Buffalo as they get charged for having them instore:?
#21
Don't understand why this is so hot when OP said there was only one, and it was a head office offer.

Driving round every Comet in a county looking for one isn't exactly cost effective.. and its pointless ringing any, as any staff member finding one would instantly snaffle it for themselves.

If it were a nationwide offer, I would be voting hot...
#22
In all fairness I asumed that this was nationwide. There was only one left in my store but the guy confirmed the price had been set by head office. This made me think the same would apply to all stores. It seems however judging by ms2005's experience that different stores are treating the end of line Buffalo stock in different ways.
Very strange?! :(
#23
They ARE treating different....Just picked one up from the Trafford Park store in Manchester and they had it marked down to £78 from £89. Found another in Liverpool and they had it @ £62.99 so snapped that up as well..Of course after a bit of haggle the Trafford Store gave it to me @ the same price as well....

Whats the advantage of having two of them?
#25
1 for my brother and 1 for me
#26
I have 2.
I am using the 500gig to auto backup my 320gig just in case the worse should happen :)
I'm glad somebody else has managed to source on though, was starting to think I was imagining it :)
#27
According to HO there were none in the Manchester area at about 1.00 today. If YaSar managed to get one, then well done YaSar and a big "poo to you" to Comet HO.
#28
Yeah I got it @ 11.50 to be precise :)

Even better....One of mates wanted one so have just been to Staples as they stock em and the manager has pricematched @ comets price and given 10% extra as good will!!!!!! slimey git got lucky on my receipt....
#29
Just picked a 320GB one for 48.99 from Comet in Bury tonight. They have another 320GB and a 250GB left. No 500GB though :-(
#30
I paid £70 for my 320 a couple of months back. Nice price fair play!
#31
None in any London stores..I have called them and checked with them....its a discontinued product hence you may have found it in your local store...EXPIRED
#32
Newport store (south wales) has 1 320 gig left at £48.99 that was at about 2:45 this afternoon.
Hope this helps someone!!
