Bought one a few days ago. Great for the money.

Yeah they are good for under £40. Some sites are still selling them for £170.... I will be using mines as a data-store for my server.

I have the 320Gb version of this, I must say I find it a little sluggish and when an external usb2 drive is attached it is so slow that it's much quicker to plug the external direct into your PC.

It's good value however. voted Hot

From a quick look at the two, I'd say that they differ in the type of Refurb & warranty.
The one from the OP is a refurb done by the manufacturer, whereas, the one ending with 'ER' just states that it is a refurb (possibly in-house?).
Could do with some clarification though.

Got one a few months back, nice and hackable now running freelink with serving via samba+SABnzbd+. I don't use torrents so haven't bothered installing anything to do that.

There are 2 versions of this nas (see here http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/LinkstationProLiveDifferences ) , but I don't think this is the difference here. More likely its just a mistake on the stock listing on the webpage, there always seems to be the same number in stock of both which seems to support this, I've watched it go from 32 to 31 to 28 of both, so I'm sure they are the same item.

What is the manufacturer for the disk drives? (I've had 5 Western Digital disks fail in the last year)

The reviews at http://reviews.cnet.com/network-storage/buffalo-linkstation-live-nas/4852-3382_7-32308783.html?tag=uoBody don't look encouraging
#14
im planning on buying this from the same seller http://****.co.uk/Buffalo-LinkStation-Pro-Duo-2TB-2000GB-NAS-Drive-/190463696111?pt=UK_Computing_HardDrives_RL&hash=item2c58855cef#ht_1040wt_905

my question might be obvious but i need to know, does it comes with the 2 TB hard drives?

Most of the reviews are from 07 / 08 / 09 and one from 10 so.... lots of firmware updates would have fixed the probs by now. If not custom firmware will work fine.

I see.
There doesn't seem to be too much difference in it to be honest.
I've just put an order in for one. Been wanting a NAS for ages, thanks OP.

you can buy a 2tb hard drive and you will have a nice 2Tb DLNA home system.

and thanks to Kells and to you too Rew632, I just got one via the link to ebay (though I had to use the search box for "Buffalo-LinkStation-Live-500GB-NAS-Network-Hard-Drive" which got me to the right page. They are still showing sock available - 29 sold.

If the Nas lives up to the recent reviews, it's a huge bargain. I wonder why Broadbandbuyer bothered listing it on ebay, at that price, wouldn't they have sold them all from their own site?
#27
Sorry I dont know about NAS much... Can we access this NAS over internet from anywhere?
#28
Heat added. Just ordered. hope to be able to hack this thing and upgrade the HDD
#29
Heat added. Just ordered one from the ebay store too! :)

@Shonk Thanks for the link to the custom firmware, have you got a site for more info? Cheers
#30
Bought one of these a few months ago from the same people for £45 inc postage. It's worked really well, no issues.

@Shonk: Is your firmware for this exact hardware? Just tried it and it wouldnt recognise the unit when I changed the product ID to 0x0009 but recognised just fine when set to 0x000A. I didnt go any further.
#31
Thanks, it worked fine. The web GUI is much much faster now, and everything seems to be working as expected, well except for Twonky, I set the refresh to -1 for auto updating and I think that killed it.
#32
Noob questions.......Is it possbile to set this up like a media player? Have been wanting one of those network media players but not sure if this NAS can do that? Can this play say mkv, dvd and divx files?

Thanks.
#33
Heat added - cracking deal. Ordered one last night. Thank you
#34
Only one still on ebay.... Item number: 190472959401

Good luck :)
#35
All gone. I have found these. (ebay ->) Item number: 190472958212 they cost a little more but still a good deal :)

@DynaMight you only change the id if its a linkstation pro e.g. its a black nas
just unrar it and run it without messing with anything on a live v1/v2

They did an identical device called the linkstion pro
that just had a different uboot on it and diff linux build
those instructions are for people with one of them
