I have got the 320gb vs of this drive and it works a treat. Not cheap, but an excellent 2.5 drive.

Anyone know if i can get a 2.5 inch drive that I can connect via ethernet?
Want to be able to access from multiple computer at home but be portable so I can take to work. As doing via internet on a nas would be too slow.

Has this got a built in USB cable?

Not slating deal, but it seems this drive come partitioned which cannot be changed (is that really possible?)

Anyway, copied straight from Amazon reviews.

I bought this because I was looking for a large storage device to keep my family pictures and videos on so I could easily plug into my TV and play. Plug it into your PC and it is quickly recognized as 2 drives by Windows 7. A virtual CD drive and a large empty hard drive. Drop your photos onto the hard drive part and everything so far is really easy. Now the tricky bit - plug it into you TVs USB port and nothing because the TV doesn't recognize your drive. I rang Buffalos UK tech support line and a guy there informed me that no media device will recognize this drive because of the virtual CD drive. You cannot change the configuration of this unit to allow it to work. He said "we do not advertise this ministation as being compatible with media devices", I did mention that they don't point out that it is incompatible.

A realy good drive if you only want to store your documents securely in a portable drive, totaly useless for anything else.

Buffalo should realy offer the option to make this into a clean single drive for domestic use or at least they should be more transparent about it's short comings.

Not impressed by Buffalo but the drive appeared to be well made and it includes a permanently attached USB lead which stows away neatly on the side - nice touch.

Technology companies should not expect their potential customers to know every detail about a product, it is their responsibility to make the information freely available before purchase.

If you are looking to use it for "media" device. Get the Juststore series or Ministation lite series from Buffalo
This is aimed more at users requiring data encryption and other advanced security features.

I have held off getting this drive becasue of the review comment on Amazon. It sounds nonsense to me. Can anyone who has the drive confirm whether or not the existing partitions can be blown away and used as a normal drive?

One of the comments to the Amazon reviews provides a link to a possible solution.

I am tempted to give it a go.

Doesn't your NAS have a USB port so that you plug any drive into it? All three of my NAS has this.

My drive arrived today.

My test results are:

Attach to NAS and access across network PASS
Attach to WDTV Live media player PASS
Attach to Panasonic Viera G20 TV PASS
Attach to laptop and use drive in encrypted mode PASS

I am not sure why others, including Buffalo technical support, say the drive does not work with media devices as it certainly works with mine.

BTW the first thing I did with the drive was format it in NTFS using the HP USB Disk Storage Tool available from HERE. All it did was format the main drive. It did not remove the Virtual Drive.
