Buffalo Ministation 500gb USB 2.0 External HDD - £34.95 at John Lewis (instore only)
Picked this up in John Lewis in Newcastle today. Very surprised at the pricing - it was half the price of every other 500gb drive on the shelf. It wasn't on a clearance sticker, so presume it's the regular price.

In what way is it "useless"? It's a hard-drive for £35, there's nothing useless about that.
USB 3.0 is a selling point, but it isn't going to happen on a drive this cheap and it certainly isn't an absolute requirement when most people won't have USB 3.0 equipped systems.
Another stupid HUKD comment, what a surprise.
Erm not having any 3.0 ports I think I'd personally find your advise pretty useless.
And how much faster, exactly, would USB 3.0 make transfer speeds on my USB 2.0 macbook air?
Happy to help :-)

A great HDD and a very good price now at £35.
