This is a great price for a 500GB portable HD. £60 seems to be about average for a drive of this capacity. That seems to be the usual price for this model too, as it was on Ebuyer before today. This price is only on the black model - the other colours are still around the £60 mark.

I've no idea if it's a mis-price, but maybe the release of the USB3 model of this drive has caused the price drop. It still seems to be £60 in most other places for now though. 252 in stock at time of writing.

Lol - just beat me to it!
#5
£59.64 now

Quite a few breakdowns of this Buffalo drive reported on amazon. Most are from 2009, so maybe things have improved since. Also, this drive doesn't use a standard mini USB cable, so bad luck when you loose it. I'd go for the Argos Seagate drive for £49.99 with free 4GB Skandisk Pen Drive.

Oh well, 240 sold in under 20 minutes - I hope they honour the price for y'all. Looks like it's back to the blinged up MJ drive for everyone else!

This deal is still on, I just checked out with free delivery for £42 (266 left). Needs to be unexpired this is a very hot deal

That's a 3.5" drive needing an external power supply. Not comparable.

This deal is still available. *edit: no it isn't when you go to checkout*

Added to basket at £42 but went to checkout and it jumped to £59 when I selected the shipping address!

still in stock at the above price- ebuyer change their prices very quickly . Ideal fro media players, although soem reports it might not be the most reliable. Bargain price though.

You could hook this up with the WDTV mini listed eslewhere for £24.99 delivered.

any idea if you can strip this down to the harddisk itself and put it into a laptop? is it just a regular 2.5" SATA?
#22
thanks alot after a good deal on one for ages :)

anybody have any rough ideas on transfer speeds with one of these?
#23
I can vouch for Ebuyer delivery - I ordered mine yesterday afternoon on the "5 working days" free delivery option, and it's just arrived now.

Reports of the drive's unreliability must be exaggerated. I've had it up and running for 10 minutes now, and it's still working fine. :)
#24
Ordered! Not a bad price, normally these are down in price sometimes instores (none near me however) so its good to see a price drop online for a change.

Now Usually dispatched within 1 to 2 months

In a totally unscientific test, I just copied 12GB of MP3s to the drive, and it took 8m 45s (in Windows 7). That's a transfer speed of 22MB/second. Note that I have not installed the Turbo PC / Turbo Copy software which comes with the drive - this is supposed to speed up transfers.
#28
still at above price, 191 left.

damn this is hot wish i never bought my seagate 250gb and waited a few months for£41 :-(

Yes, ideal for that, as long as you don't have more than 500GB of stuff. It doesn't come with any backup software, but you can get free software or just copy the files over in explorer.

It will be ok, but you could also consider just getting another internal drive which would be faster and probably more reliable. All drives break down eventually, some brands are better than others.

The advantage of this one is portability so ideal for laptop backup. For proper data backup for very importnat files you should have more than one backup and in different places.

Its a "USB Mini-B" socket on the device and comes with a USB Mini-B to USB-A (standard size) cable.
#37
Wow that sold out quick, still same price at amazon if you dont mind the wait

I've had a Buffalo Ministation for a couple of years and find mine quite slow and a bit fidldley with the two cables you have to connect. Not sure if this model needs two cables or runs at the same speeds.

I've just got a highly reviewed 500GB Seagate Expansion for £49.99 off Amazon which only needs one cable connecting and seems a lot faster. Oh, and it looks and feels better.
#39
I am tempted by this but I prefer the SR version which is shock resistant and has the cable built into the case. It's a shame is around £20 more! Link

This model has only one cable. I can't comment on the speed, as I've no idea how slow your old one was. :)
