heat added! been on the lookout for this drive for a while. doesn't seem to fluctuate in £ much so this seems like a decent deal
#2

I got the 500 GB version of this for £40 odd a couple of months ago. It has gone '**** up' as of yesterday and I am now trying to recover all my 60GB of music off it at a lightning fast 643Kb per second - regularly skipping files as we go. It won't checkdisk or anything.

Gutted

Wheres the discount code? Its a good price but showing as £61.99 on their site.

Have you tried removing the disk from the casing and plugging it directly into your motherboard, it could just be the USB->SATA part of the housing that's gone.

I haven't got to that stage yet as I'm trying to recover as much as I can very slowly. I've ordered a SATA dock from Amazon which will be here tomorrow so I'll try that too.

i bought this from comet a month ago for a similar price. The disk stopped spinning within 3 weeks not sure if this is a bad quality drive or just bad luck tho.

P.S. i bought it as a back up drive whilst switching to my new PC, i lost around 500gb of films and music FML

does it have micro usb or mini? hope it's not like the latest WD elements (with micro usb) as you can't remove the drive to use it in a laptop or PS3 etc

Very hot.

Does anyone know if this is 9.5mm or 12mm?
#19
Cheers, ordered for store pickup.

As someone said earlier, great for storing PS3 'stuff'

9.5mm 1Tb drives don't exist yet so this will be a 12.5mm drive and thus will not fit inside a PS3, as well as a lot of Laptops.

Does this drive, create a virtual CD with all its encryption software on it ?

If it does, I will stay clear. As my last Buffalo was unreadable on my media player because of it (and generally was a pain in the ass if you had virtual drive software installed on the PC (like magiciso)

For some the extra features are good, but for me who simply wants a USB drive to work without hassle, it was irritating. (virtual CD function could not be removed)

well not knowing a lot about these - but werent there loads of offer last week for 2TB ones for a similar price? or is it because this is usb powered and not mains, so its more expensive?

whats the difference, other than being more expensive to get usb over mains? is it more reliable or just takes less power?

im just interested as i really need something to clear up space on my laptop - because i use it for my itunes it has everything on here that is also on my ipod touch - which is a 64gb model and is almost full, so thats 58gb ish on my laptop which is only 160gb hdd so id love to free that up plus a bunch of wrestling events i downloaded.

can we order for a store pickup and avail of the "comet perks" £5 discount during collection ?

I too have the drive with the hardware encryption but it works fine for me on all devices I connect it to including my Panasonic Plasma TV and my WD TV Live media player.

Yes, I cannot see how to use both discounts on the one transaction. Has anyone managed this?

Perks is not a discount code. Order for store pickup using the 1TB code. When you pick up and go to pay say that you have a £5 perks discount to use and they will ask for your email address and take £5 off.....simples!!!

Mini USB. It's been transferring data for two days straight and got to about halfway. Now disassembled and in the dock and just as slow. One for the bin.

mine arrived today. quite surprised by how small it is + seems a bit fragile. dead silent though. formatting it now
