one of the best series ever made? :? u kidding or what? it was fun, but the stories were all similar and the effects on the last episode were awful.

try the wire, soprano's, six feet under... dexter... buffy don't come close to these titles.

hell.... nip/tucks better than this

You mention good shows and fair play but in 7 series there are only one or two below par episodes. But they are incredibly well made, well written and well produced. You might not like them but this is not a bad deal for so many good shows. I'll agree with the SFX in the last episode, they certainly ran out of budget for the effects, but the high points were some of the best on television and created an excellent universe. As good as the shows you mention, not including nip tuck, oh please, (although Dexter is near perfect, love it) this show had much more widespread appeal and talking points that many would get, not to mention some of the best characterisations created. The ingredients on this show made it shine which makes it easily repeated viewing and not something you'd have to be in the mood for.

I got this for £70 from amazon last year. Its the repackaged sets repackaged in a box set and still one disk short of the US version. Still...its Buffy! The individuals sets are £12 which means this is down from £84 and the next cheapest complete set is £74 from Zaavi

What they said.

Plus I'll just say, Joss Whedon. Creator of Firefly and Dollhouse to name but two excellent shows.

I successfully hated on Buffy for a few years after it started, not really knowing anything about it except that it was some teen comedy vamp thing I should avoid. When I finally did bump into an episode I was a little taken aback. It was actually pretty good I decided almost against my own will. Eventually got all the episodes and watched them back to back. Great fun with some truly great episodes in the mix.

I was 11 when I saw Becoming...it made a mark on me for sure. Its a cultural touchstone for a generation of young girls as well. No word of a lie, today I got an email from my english lecturer who quoted Buffy knowingly.

Great price. But is it too late to go on my Christmas wish list?!?!?!?

It's widely considered one of the best shows of the fledgling 21st Century. Well respected by other writers and it has had a ripple effect on other Television shows since. Hell Dr. Who might never have come back, or at least not so successfully according to Russell T Davies if not for Buffy & Angel showing TV bosses that you could do "youth" orientated Sci-Fi / Fantasy AND still care about strong plots, character depth and tackling issues without being heavy handed.
I tend to say that if you can watch the episode “Hush” without being converted then fair enough. Surely an influence on the Dr. Who episode with the weeping Angels it’s a genuinely chilling piece of television.

It's an important show, more than that it's a bloody good one too.

totally agree, one of the best tv series of recent, which was made amazing by the quality of writers (though half of them left to write episodes for Angel and Firefly after season 4), Yeah it has it's bad moments as all tv series do, but for the majority it was some of the best character driven fantasy. I mean it's cultural impact was shown in 2001 when you could do a Degree in Buffy lol:

There are so many good episodes for me, in particular Hush, conversations with dead people, once more with feeling, Becoming, Tabula Rasa, but enough of this dribble, if you haven't seen it yet, I totally recommend it at this price, give it a go (try to endure the first season they were only just finding their feet and their budget was pitiful so expect mondo-cheesyness) but I think you'll like it. And once you've done with Buffy (or if you have enough time to do episodes from two shows start from Season 4 of Buffy) start Angel, the spin-off, which in my opinion was better.
