Who actually pays for antivirus? Moreover, who pays for antivirus sold by PC World?

Avast seems pretty good but I had a problem with malware the other day sorted it with

malwarebytes.org - their scanner found the evil little files and deleted them.

good for spyware, etc - anti-virus such as avast dont stop all the evil little computer nerds out there !!

Yup, thats another I run along Avast. Adaware is also a good one.
For firewalls, Commodo or Zone-Alarm are options ... irritating program learning curve, but once thats done it's not too bad.
NoScript is a good Firefox plug in to help keep you safe from cross site scripting.

And, if you have kids, K9 Webprotection by Bluecoat is great for restricting them or keeping tabs on usage.

All free of course :)

Just done a rather long search.

Still seems Avast (FREE) is topdog.
Not voted either way.

I've been using Avast for the virus side of things for years, moved to AVG (on recommendations from others) for a few months but got fed up with me having to click the pop up advise that an upgrade is available, along with it trying to sell me the full version. Moved back to Avast again and will stay with them I guess.

I also use a few other free specialised programs which work well in keeping my PC clean and safe 8)
prepare to be spammed for the rest of your life lol

Yeah, the link is incorrect. I'm a Carphone Warehouse client and the correct link given to me in the e-mail is: http://www.bullguard.com/cpwuk

Unfortunately, it will only work for the people that have received the newsletter from Carphone.

Furthermore, i just find out that BullGuard is not such crap as everyone thinks. The new version (10) has some new cool features that placed BullGuard on top of everyone, in the AV-TEST Labs tests: http://www.bullguard.com/why/bullguard-internet-security/av-test-results-bullguard-v10-november-2010.aspx

Better research before trashing someone. ;)
Yuk, I had this installed for free when I bought my new PC, first thing I did was remove it!

IMHO it causes all sorts of problems.
silly post about a crap product at a crazy price. to the freezer with you!
Just download Avast, its free and works great
Hugh Jass!
Microsoft essentials does me and free
I use that too, and it won't allow the user to switch it off !
And it's absolutely murder for false positives too.
Doesn't ask, just removes.
Good, but O.T.T.
Oh - and Bullguard is a crap A.V. too, to make it even less of a "good deal"

@talkshop. I agree, AVG is free, but i doesn't have an on-access engine (it will not scan the infections before entering your computer). You find out that your PC is infected after all of your infos are stolen.

Link goes to a £44.41 offer. Not exactly Free?

Just use AVG FREE which is as it says. lol

Kaspersky
For the third year in a row Norton Internet Security came out top of PCPro's anti-virus packages. It's very lightweight on your pc (which is very different to Norton of the past) and protects your pc way better than free packages.

http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/software/361192/norton-internet-security-2011

2011 will be the year of Malware and new versions have the ability to really mess up your computer. It's always worth spending a bit of money on decent protection.

It's £23 for a 3 computer licence:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Norton-Internet-Security-Computers-Subscription/dp/B0040JGNGW
I think this offer may only available to the folk who recieve the email as the activation code is on the actual email .Click on the link from the email and it takes you to the download site , your details have to be given , name ,address ,email addy , phone number ,postcode ,then your sent an email with the link to download . I got the email but not really interested in Bullguard.

why would you need this? Most client software has spam filters and practically all online ones do too

even my kaspersky suite filters them but had to turn it off cos its so heavy on what it deems as spam

enlightenment appreciated 8)

Hi Freebie Hunter

I work for BullGuard, and can you assure you the Spamfilter is a totally free product. I'll investigate the page now and check whether trial has been included in any text, if it is there it is a mistake.

So just to clarify, it is a totally free product..

Thanks
Justin
Cant confirm as i've not downloaded it, but looks like this is just a trial from the page link....
