Burnout 5 gives players license to wreak havoc in Paradise City, the ultimate seamless racing battleground, with a massive infrastructure of traffic-heavy roads to abuse. Gone is the need to jump in and out of menus and aimlessly search for fun like many open world games; in Burnout 5, every inch of the world is built to deliver heart-stopping Burnout-style gameplay. Every intersection is a potential crash junction and every alleyway is an opportunity to rack up moving violations.

Of course, rules are made to be broken, and when gamers enter Paradise City, they're assigned a Drivers License that quickly begins to amass a record of player's most aggressive, reckless and destructive exploits behind the wheel. But it's not the law that's eyeing player's progress ... when gamers push things too hard they'll be squaring off against the city's most infamous burners, and these legends aren't interested in who crosses the finish line first.

Really like this game and so does the missus, she likes crashing a lot, I tried to explain that it's not a sim

You don't need the ultimate edition to get those updates

You will get 90% of the ultimate edition content added to this edition with patches when you install - the only content you will miss out on is the multiplayer party mode, where you pass round a single pad. You can buy this as content from the PSN store if you really need it (wouldn't bother myself)

The game is so much better now that they have added race restarts

Yeah i saw this a few days ago & opted to get the ultimate version from play for £14.24 [360 version as ps3 was out of stock].
I've always preferred the burnout series to the racing sims like forza or gran turismo, As it's just more fun

Yes, it was added to my standard edition as an update a few months ago

From the 1up news page:

Criterion has released details for a free update to Burnout: Paradise coming on February 6, just after the Party Pack is released the day before. Among the biggest changes are a new in-game store to browse the incoming paid content for the game, and the much-requested Restart option for races. "You can now quit or fail an event and choose to restart it," the blog states. "We've always enjoyed the feeling of freedom that Paradise City's open world delivers, but we appreciate that as you run low on events towards the end of the game, you can spend a little too long in transit."

Other features include a browser site (PC/PS3 only), vehicle handling and event tweaks, an adjustment to the Stunt Run and Road Rage timers, brighter colors for event objects like billboards, and an easier way to pull off barrel rolls. The changes in general seem to focus on making the game easier and more accessible for beginners, while keeping the challenging options in play for more experienced racers. Even if you aren't planning to pick up the paid DLC coming to the game, it's nice to see that Criterion is still supporting the game with free updates to keep it fresh.
