Shows you what the subsidy is on those bulbs, here in Spain, Aldi this week have them on offer for 2.29 euros (about £2.00) EACH this week, until recently they have been 6.99 euros each. At least you can get a full size bottle of Gin, Rum, Whisky for about £3.50 a bottle, so swings and roundabouts ;-)

managed to get some small screw bulbs in Tesco westwood Thanet yesterday.Must be the 20th supermarket I'd looked in. 5 for £1, if they really last ten years I'll never need to buy another one.

No, they don't last anything like ten years, I've already got a stack waiting to go down the recycling centre.

BTW, what would one do with 7w bulbs? That's equivalent to about 30w incandescent, I mean, if you like to live in the dark why have bulbs at all?

7w is a bit unusual. The ones I bought were 9w (40 old watts). Now I can't find the lamps I bought them for, been put away since Woolworths closed... Low watts are handy for leaving on as security lights.
