Hada fairly poor experience with them earlier this year, I'm afraid. First pairs took over a month to arrive and the prescriptions were miles off. They did replace both pairs, but neither of them are wearable either. It might be that I have an astigmatism and simpler prescriptions are fine, but just for a warning!

I've bought lots of specs from them, all have been fine. Yes, astigmatism (cylinder) prescriptions are more complicated, but I have astigmatism and they have still been good. Can as you say take awhile to arrive from Pakistan.

Used to be a great company, but no more...my last pair they had THREE attempts, and were still miles of prescription...then they started the blame games of prescription was wrong !

    Never again :-\

I've used them for six pairs now over past 4 years. One arrived cracked lens and they quickly sent replacement pair. Another pair I mis-typed the prescription and they emailed me to query and then corrected. My wife and I both have their varifocal reactolite rimless specs (wearing them now) for less than £70/pair - wait for their regular special offers and then buy some! I even managed to find some wrap around sunglasses that I had made to my prescription and tinted yellow to use as cycling glasses - £50 - people are astounded when I tell them the price. I recommend this company.

how can you definitely tell that the prescription is off? apart from the obvious that you cant see as well lol?

Most eye centres e.g. specsavers have machines which can read your current prescription in your glasses

I've bought two pairs of glasses from them at the begin of this year. Firstly one pair was missing and has been resent within 4 weeks. Unfortunately they resent wrong ones and never used them. When I wearing another pair for a few hours my eyes are itchy and I'm feeling really tired. Anyway quality of them is very poor. I've got today this offer on my email, but said never again.

Sounds dodgy to me. Says their phone number is "Toll Free", and when you click on 'About Us', there is nothing there to say who they are etc. There is also no 'Contact Us' link with their e-mail address and postal address. Steer well clear imo.

I don't understand why this has been posted? I posted this last week and it went cold, really cold. I even listed lots of examples of the glasses on offer (not that that counts for anything, just sayin'.)

    http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/tuesday-2-pairs-for-20-delivered-goggles4u-also-uk-customers-valid-72-hours-1343425

The Goggles4U Facebook page said, last Tuesday, that this 2PAIRS20 code was for "72 hours". Which would make this offer EXPIRED. Days ago.

The current FB promotion, posted 3 hours ago is: "Get yourself a Geek Chic pair of glasses this Halloween at a wicked 10% off on entire Geek collection. Code: 10Geek".

See the promo picture blurb for the 23rd October entry: https://www.facebook.com/Goggles4u.Eyeglasses it clearly states the offer runs out in 72 hours.

They've been around for years. I've used them in the past. It's an American company.

    There's nothing dodgy about goggles4u.

I have bought several pairs of glasses from them over a period of years.

They are fine and have never screwed up any of my orders.

I've used them for a number of years and have never had any problems whatsoever. have a astigmatism but I don't buy Varifocals.

Why are they all so small? trying to find anything with an overall width of more than 130mm + 140mm temple width and an 18mm bridge is ridiculously hard on that site and if you can find it then it's going to be in pink :(

I guess their really cheap frames are remaindered and limited in size and style. I bet that some of them never sell at any price, but I have found some good ones. I even got a pair of titanium ones in the $4.95 price range a few months ago (got them in VDU-range prescription for computer use, wearing them now).

I work for an independent opticians in Norfolk, the amount of specs that come through the door that are purchased online and don't meet legal requirements is scarily high! Do yourself and your eyes a favour and buy from the place you have your eyes tested, that is the safest method, in our practice, like many others all specs are checked on 4 different occasions before reaching the patient, and in a case that the patient feels the specs are wrong they have a re-test to check the prescription.

Obviously the prices are dearer but the quality is incomparable, and is it worth a couple quids saving for potentially health threatening glasses?

But if you do choose to buy online, please don't get your eyes tested at an independant, both private and NHS funded tests don't cover the costs of a sight test, not even half! So use a chain like Boots or Specsavers.

    Rant and plea over.

    Are you an optician?
    louiselouise
LongPockets, as the OP I'm surprised you haven't responded to my post suggesting you're using an expired code (namely, 2PAIRS20), or has this been emailed out to subscribers to Goggles4U recently (as one other member suggested earlier in the thread)? If it has, I didn't get that email.

If you look at the Goggles4U Facebook page there's no indication this offer has been resurrected from last Tuesday (it lasted 3 days, so ran out last Friday).

See here: https://www.facebook.com/Goggles4u.Eyeglasses#!/photo.php?fbid=10151098470841545&set=a.189852926544.132597.189729316544&type=1&theater "Valid For 72 Hours" (This FB post is from 23 October).

schaitel, in what way are online-bought spectacles "health-threatening"? I think common sense needs to be exercised here..if you have a simple prescription you can save a heck of a lot of money. People with more complex sight problems wouldn't, I assume, risk doing the online route. Your other point, about "quality" (unless you mean aftercare, and even that can be hit or miss)..some Goggles4U frames are stamped Japan and Italian-made. I'd be very surprised if the non-designer frames in UK opticians don't originate from China either.

I've yet to get my Goggles4U pairs and a little nervous seeing as experiences are mixed..but I've spent less than a quarter than I would normally. I avoided the thin, spindly looking frames and bought similar styles to my usual. And for rimless frames they're stupidly cheap; opticians charge even more of a premium for those, even though they're more fragile than ordinary frames.

I used the code last night with no issues. As for responding, I usually ignore anything containing the word "facebook".

Yeah, wife and I were subjected to a diatribe by an "independent" optician (actually a small chain) when we refused to buy specs after getting a test. We certainly won't go there again.

Shame, because it's the best place to get codes for Goggles4U, but I can take the hint, what you really mean is you couldn't be bothered replying (much simpler to be upfront instead of evasive).

Where did you get the 2PAIRS20 code from, then?! Either Facebook or the HUKD post I put on here last week.

I was only wanting confirmation that the code worked. Thanks anyway ;) A bit miffed that my post got very cold, particularly after putting so many links/examples/PD measurement links, but that's the way of HUKD.

It was my very first time requesting my prescription from my optician a few weeks back..and she was quite rude. I was very honest and told her I was buying online. I can absolutely understand why they feel they're losing £s (I read on MSE that opticians don't make much out of NHS sight tests, the profits are made through spectacles purchases) but this is the way of the world..we all try to save money where we can. My prescription is pretty straightforward so I thought I'd give Goggles4U a punt.
