These are just giant rip offs and personally I think they should all be done for fraud.

You 'cannot' purchase any part of the moon, just like you can't name a star or own a bit of mars or any other idiotic space based gift. It's just a con.

You're essentially just paying for some ridiculously expensive photocopied pieces of paper. The only reason they arent shut down is that it's so phenomenally stupid that nobody knows who exactly should claim jurisdiction.
#5
I agree with all the above.
This is a big scam.
#6
however if anyone is interested in purchasing some of freddie mercury's farts then email me :giggle:

If this is a scam.. why is it listed on this site???

Nope, if you've seen Danny Wallace's show "How To Start Your Own Country" then you may remember him going all the way to America to meet the guy who governs the moon-plot selling. He's got a proper map and has lots of filing systems and the like.

Still could be a con, but there's one guy who does it all the same. ;-)

Well, this appears to be a bit of a legal argument at the minute... but I do not agree with you guys calling it a scam.

Have a butchers:

Well, basically a very bright chap in America called Dennis Hope actually realized that there was a loophole in the United Nations Outer Space Treaty. That basically says that no country or government can lay claim to the land on the moon, but they forgot to say that a person couldn't do it.

The Outer Space Treaty of 1967 explicitly forbids any government from claiming a celestial resource such as the Moon or a planet.....

The United Nations and all countries that signed the Outer Space Treaty became aware of this vital omission almost immediately after the treaty was ratified in 1967. In fact, the United Nations have expended a large amount of time trying to ratify an amendment to the treaty ever since, that would explicitly include corporations and individuals. All attempts at ratifying such an amendment failed because member states did not agree with it.

I'm not a legal eagle, but there may be a chance.... one can dream :)

Ok if it was for a bit of fun and maybe cost a fiver but come on £25 could get you better stuff than that lol

I bet you any money that whan you paid your £23.50 you get a whole load of rubbish thru your door and a photo copied cerificate with a copied signature on it (like thousands had been rolled off the press)

I bet if you felt the paper it would still be warm from the copier lol
#18
How can you trust a company that does not even know how the Royal Mail works?

Sorry, but it's also a very expensive 'bit of fun' :giggle:

I'm sorry but what exactly 'do' you think we should call it? They are selling you something they don't own. It's something you can 'never' claim or have.

There's never been a court case simply because nobody wants to claim jurisdiction for the moon. There's no legal 'argument', nobody is actually arguing. It's just a pile of bumph from the con artists involved in the scam.

It's exactly the same as the 'name a star' pages, you just get some worthless pieces of paper with some co-ordinates on. You can print them up yourself at home and they'll be exactly the same.

I'm a little embarrassed that it's being advertised by this site to be honest.

This site does not "advertise" anything. We find the best deals on the web. Now, this particular one may not be too your liking, but it is better offer than any I have seen before, hence why I posted it. I'm sure a lot of people have bought things like this - not seriously thinking they are going to get it, but for the novelty, and maybe an interesting gift for a partner or loved one. This is why I posted this deal.
[admin]#21
Ok just to be clear this is a novelty item. No one is actually going to own a piece of the moon. It's a gag gift to give someone for a laugh, it's not for investment purposes.

£23.50 for some worthless pieces of paper?

Can I list other worthless things that are cheap? I could sell cubic feet of gas from Jupiter?

It's a scam and shouldn't be here.

Yay!! That's the guy who Danny Wallace went to meet. He's the one who organises it all so that no two people get the same bit of moon.

Yes it seems he laid claim to it all, after the treaty that said no government could.... but as your wikipedia link showed, there are quite a few claims.

I think you should have put in the original post that this is a Novelty Itememmajk42, that was the one thing I was looking for while reading over it.
Otherwise it does look like a bit of a 'scam' posting.

The only reason it's still allowed to go on is because no-one can contest it because none of the people who have bought 'plots' can actually inhabit that space.
When the American government starts colonising the Moon in some fasion in the far future I doubt there would be one successful claim of land ownership from anyone with these 'Lunar Deeds'.
#30

Thekanister: I'm sorry but it appears you have been conned. You see I ALREADY own the Moon, so if you give me your address I will have my lawyers write to you demanding it back :pirate:

So..... if i purchase an acre of the moon and NASA land on it.....

........Can i sue em? lol :pirate::giggle:

I really dont believe that NASA ever landed on the moon as I was saying to Elvis the other day how could they as surely cheese would never be able to stand the weight of the landing module;-)
