OMG, 3 years for free?! cold...

Of course many will argue they have 2 years free anyway. Then throw in the sale of goods 6 years.

Also not all student courses last 3 years, many are 4 or more so, cold from me.

They've been doing this for years. My last iMac (bought in 2007) came with it. Never had cause to use it though...

The standard EU 2 year (minimum) warranty only applies to faults that were present at the time of delivery, which you have to prove somehow, if you claim more than 6 months after delivery.

How do you get the 3 years free? I have logged on to Apple Education but it wants £48 for the 3 year cover

They sent it in the post a week or two later in my case, automatically...

I asked in the Apple Store about this recently, apparently you used to get a 3 year warranty for free but not any more, they said it's 1 year. You can however uplift to full AppleCare for £48ish

You get a 3 year warranty, the £48 is the full phone support etc.

Got this on my Retina Pro last year.

I've used Mac's (Apple II's before that) since 1984. My company and I have used 100's of them in total and I've not once had to submit a warranty claim. Back in the day Apple used to give 3 years anyway. Apple always won TCO awards, which, from their standard of manufacturing and quality of components, they always deserved. Our PC's, on the other hand, were forever being repaired by our IT guys...and we didn't use Dell rubbish, we bought HP and IBM PC's. It was a running joke between the gaming PC users in the company and Mac users, that the IT guys were only employed by the grace of Gates.

EU regs now give us ample coverage, whatever manufacturers/retailers claim (another good reason for kicking UKip into touch) and this deal is only of use if you are one of the unfortunates who take delivery of a very delinquent teenage Apple computer: Six years of life for every one of us human years. So, I'm really not sure if this is a good deal or not...

...spoiled my ballot.

They were incorrect :)
