On the 24/09/2006 I ordered two Dual suspension Mountain Bikes:-
15 Speed Twist Grip Index Gearing
Quick Release Front Wheel
Non Rusting Aluminium Rims
Cosmetically Enhanced TIG Welding
Branded Front Suspension Forks
Reinforced Downtube for Additional Off Road Strength
Semi Raised Handlebars for An Improved Riding Position
Schrader All Purpose Valves for Easy Inflation
TOTAL cost £158.90 :):):)

One came 5 days later and the second came about five days after that. Very well put together and well packaged.
IMO, the quality of both bikes is great and the website pictures are exactly how the bikes look. See my pictures in the first post.
They do have some £99.00 bikes that look just as good, the shipping is £19.90 for both.

The top two pictures are from their website and the third picture is of the actual bike taken today. I have not put the other bike together yet but I have checked it.

I don't know how to explain. The welds are very clean and tidy. The paint finish is great. The bike is very heavy.
What else can I say, my 14 year old Son thinks it's fantastic and you know what teenagers can be like   He got it for his Birthday today and my soon to be 15 year old Daughter gets hers in two weeks and she likes this one.

Would 'Universal' be the make? If so, then that is it.

I think that Universal is just a trademark. These guys are sitting in Basildon (Endeavour drive if I am not mistaken). Here is their website. As to the offer itself, I think it is their permanent offer. Good value if you after cheap bike.

It came with loads of quality tools needed to put it together along with a full assembly booklet, a quick assembly booklet and a Owner's manual & maintenance guide.
These aren't photocopies on 80gsm paper, they are good quality booklets with detailed pictures.

Hey up, I sound like an advert for them :giggle:

I think the make is POLARIS.

Is this the same bike but for cheaper(?):

I think you are right.

The box had a big yellow sticker on it saying if you need any help with the assembly, phone 01268 ????? number. Now that makes a change, normally they want you to phone an expensive 0870 number.

Yes that looks like it

I got two for £158 inc P&P so if you want two then that's the way to go I think.

I read that full suspension bikes like this loose 25% of the energy you put into them i.e. pedal power compared to standard bikes and they are usually heavy so unless people are really going to do some hard off road work then people may want to consider alternatives if most of their use is as a road cycle.

It is quite heavy compared to 'other' bikes but I had a go on it and I found the ride very comfortable.
I suppose it depends on what you want one for, my two kids think it's great and just what they want.

If you have any thoughts about buying this bike to take it off road forget it! If you just want a cheap bike to get about it will probably be ok.

Have you seen some bad reviews on them? Or have you had one?
The company has been 'online' since 1999, surely we'd have heard bad reports in the media if the bikes were naff.

I personally think that their bikes are pretty much of same quality as those in supermarkets. I was once tempted to buy bikes off Sterling House but this discussion put me off. But again, for the money, I think they are OK.

These are good general use bikes and the price is good value (as Kommunist notes this is a permanent offer at Sterling House) but if you want a serious bike then go to a specialist bike shop.

That link took me to a Banks, Fraud and the Internet forum and I couldn't find anything about Sterling House.

Yep, that's right. People had money fraudulently taken off their credit cards and then they realised that all of them were using Sterlin House. AFAIR, one of their payment processing companies leaked credit card numbers and personal data to fraudsters. If you read on, you'll find how the story went, see SH responses to it, etc.
Now, I am not saying that SH are fraudsters, don't get me wrong - I am just explaining why I didn't bought from them. This story was still going on when I needed a bike.

I'm interested in this but I've just got to page 10 out of 46 and I cannot see anything yet.
What page does it mention S/H? Soz but I don't have time to read every post. :-(
#23
I think that they were first mentioned on page 23 and the official response from SH is on page 25.

Interesting read. After reading that it would not put me off buying from them again.
Thanks for the link

At the time I read it, the issue was still ongoing and I wasn't really sure whether I should take the risk and buy off them. So I decided against. But now it looks like the problem has been resolved. :)

Thanks Kommunist :)

I just thought people may be interested in my experience with S/H, with Christmas coming up.
