They do the yard of Jaffa cakes too for the same price 97p and there's no vat to pay on them (there was with the choc fingers for some reason).

We now have a chocolate finger and jaffa cake mountain in the kitchen!

no VAT on jaffa cakes as they are classed as a 'cake' not a biscuit (which ARE subject to VAT) - weird huh!
#3
I can never understand the VAT rules in Costco - their huge pizzas are VAT free too...

Agreed - no VAT on cakes.

Jaffa Cakes, despite being biscuits, are regarded as cakes by the VAT man - anyone else suspect the VATman likes a Jaffa Cake with his tea!!!

I think it's the chocolate that makes 'em vatable, therefore considered a luxury item.Used to work for a small local supermarket at school,in the days where you keyed in the prices ,that is,and vat items had red price labels.

i feel old know:oops:

Another example of backward britain, chocolate considered a luxury item, were the rules drawn up during the WWII food drought?
Crazy.
Albeit in this day and age where we are quickly catching up with America's obesity rates, chocolate and other fatty foods should have a higher V.A.T. if you're gonna hog the NHS which I pay for years from now, fatties can do their fair share thanks :)
